  • Patent number: 4282794
Abstract: A self-propelled off-road vehicle particularly adapted for military use against targets such as tanks. The vehicle chassis mounts an elevatable support platform to which an operator platform is pivoted. The operator platform carries one or more weapons pods and a sighting device such as a periscope, both of which can be elevated above the operator platform. The operator platform is rotatable relative to the support platform to sweep the sighting axis of each weapons pod through azimuth, and its pivotable relation to the support platform allows the sighting axis to be swept through elevation for alignment with the target. Other aspects of the invention include propulsion, transmission, and wheel suspension systems enabling the vehicle to negotiate difficult terrain, maneuver at relatively high speeds, and utilize rocks, trees, and low folds in the ground to avoid exposure to ground-level sightings by tanks or the like.
