Abstract: The invention relates to a water-soluble film comprising more than one polyvinyl alcohol resin and at least one plasticiser present in an amount of at least 20% by weight of the film, wherein at least one polyvinyl alcohol resin has a weight average molecular weight of at least 50,000 g/mol and at least one polyvinyl alcohol resin has a weight average molecular weight of less than 50,000 g/mol. The invention is further related to a direct cast extrusion process for producing a water-soluble film comprising more than one polyvinyl alcohol resin and at least one plasticiser present in an amount of at least 20% by weight of the film, wherein at least one polyvinyl alcohol resin has a weight average molecular weight of at least 50,000 g/mol and at least one polyvinyl alcohol resin has a weight average molecular weight of less than 50,000 g/mol.

Abstract: The invention is a refill device for a cylindrical type of multi-dosing detergent delivery device wherein, said refill device comprises a plurality of detergent carrying chambers (210) sharing a common backing substrate (230). In prior refill devices, the device is provided to consumers in a fully rolled condition ready to be deployed into the detergent delivery device. However, in the present invention the refill is supplied in flat format with locking features which enable the end consumer to easily perform a rolling operation prior to use. The advantage to this arrangement comes in the lowering of manufacturing costs, packaging, storage and transportation costs that come with a less complicated product.

Abstract: A process for producing a container comprising at least one aperture, the process comprising the steps of: a) thermoforming a material to produce an intermediate container in a mould, b) supporting at least a portion of the intermediate container with a supporting means, c) securing the intermediate container to hold it in a fixed locus in contact with the supporting means, d) forming at least one aperture in a surface of the intermediate container in an area of the intermediate container adjacent to the portion of the intermediate container supported by the supporting means to produce the container, and wherein the supporting means provides sufficient support to the intermediate container to prevent substantial deformation thereof during at step (d). A container produced by the method is also provided.

Abstract: The invention is an improvement to a multi-dosing detergent delivery device, the device being of a type comprising a housing (2) for receiving therein, in use, a cartridge (200) having a plurality X of chambers (210) each accommodating a detergent composition, a directing means (3,34) to direct, in use, wash liquor selectively into a selected chamber (210) of the cartridge (200) to contact the detergent composition therein, an outlet to allow the detergent loaded wash liquor to exit the device and indexing means (100) for automatic movement of said cartridge (200) in use relative to said directing means (3,34). The specific improvement to the device comprises ensuring that the entry hole (220) of a selected chamber is out of alignment with a hole (34) forming part of the directing means at the start of a heating cycle of a wash, so as to avoid or reduce a problem of detergent held within the chamber (210) from being washed out or diluted during a pre-wash cycle of a dishwasher.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus for the manufacture of an elongate compressed detergent composition, using apparatus comprising at least one pressing means (64) in movable communication with a forming chamber (60), wherein said at least one pressing means has a contact surface (65) suitable for contacting, in use, a composition, (61) to be compressed, and wherein the at least one contact surface is angled with respect to the forming chamber; the method comprising the steps of: loading the forming chamber with a dose of the detergent composition; the at least one contact surface being brought into contact with the detergent composition; the at least one pressing means compressing the composition between the at least one contact surface and forming chamber; and retracting the at least one pressing means to leave an elongate compressed detergent composition in the forming chamber of a non-rectangular cross-section.

Abstract: A method is provided for producing a plurality of moldings in one mold wherein the mold has at least one introduction point for molding material and a plurality of cavities with a shape corresponding to that of the moldings. The cavities are arranged so that each cavity, except cavities in an end or peripheral position, is connected to at least two directly adjacent cavities. A fluid casting compound of a material having a solidified hardness of not more than about 200 N, defined as the force at which an 11 mm sphere of the material will shatter, is introduced into the mold, so that it essentially fills all of the cavities, and the casting compound is then solidified and removed from the mold.
