  • Publication number: 20100248722
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating a first cellular communications network, particularly for operating cells in the border region of the first cellular mobile communications network, wherein the first mobile communications network is identifiable by an identifier and, at least in border regions of the first mobile communications network, transmits the identifier of a second neighboring mobile communications network that is considered equivalent to a mobile communications terminal device to which a communications connection exists, wherein an at least partial spatial overlap of the communications ranges of the two mobile communications networks is present, wherein the mobile communications terminal device measures the communications signal strengths of the mobile communications networks currently receivable at the current location of the mobile communications terminal device, wherein the communications signal strengths measured by the communications terminal device and the associated identifiers o

  • Patent number: 7796994
Abstract: The invention describes a method for the optimization of the cell reselection procedure in accordance with the UMTS standard of a mobile network end device, so that an individual adjustment can be made based on the speed of the mobile end device. The invention is characterized in that an optimization of the cell reselection performance is realized through the speed-dependent establishment of the cell reselection parameters, whereby the use of a method of hierarchical cell structures is excluded.

  • Publication number: 20100124926
Abstract: In order to efficiently allow mobility and radio resource management decisions on mobile networks the deciding entity (typically the radio access network) needs some understanding about the type of mobile user. In current cellular systems the radio network has only limited to null information about subscription dependent details of the mobile users. The proposed invention relates to a mobile system where a generic information container is defined which is applicable per UE in order to convey subscription related information from the core network to the radio access network which can be used to steer the user to an appropriate cell or for any other Radio Resource Management (RRM) related procedure/decision. It is proposed to define an information element (herein referred as “subscriber type”) which allows an indication or pointer to a set of rules which are locally defined in involved no'des (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20100048224
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for acquiring the parameters of a mobile radio network (3), whereby regular subscriber terminal devices (1) perform the acquisition without the use of additional external devices (GPS receiver, storage and processing module, notebook . . . ) being necessary. The acquisition of characteristic data can be configured dynamically by the mobile radio system (3) and is preferably performed every time that the user determines a position in any case (when using Location Based Services) or the subscriber terminal device (1) reaches a defined range (4) of the mobile radio network (3), whereby the definition of this range (4) is based either on network-standard field identifiers (Cell ID, LA, RA, URAI TA) or was defined by an open polygon of coordinates. The acquired data are transferred to an acquisition, analysis and processing unit (2).

  • Publication number: 20090075657
Abstract: A method for optimizing the load distribution between one mobile radio network, for example using the UMTS standard, and another mobile radio network, for example using the GSM standard, by optimizing the signalling sequence when establishing a connection in such a mobile radio system. It enables efficient cooperation when establishing a connection, for example a voice connection, between a UMTS and a GSM network. In addition to the efficient use of resources in a UMTS system, the method also enables direct establishment of a connection, for example of a voice connection that was initiated in a UMTS network, in a GSM network.

  • Publication number: 20090040966
Abstract: A method for guaranteeing the quality of services in packet-switching radio communications networks. The radio access network (RAN) and the core network (CN) use the quality of service information independently of one another, without signalling individual parameters, in order to guarantee the transmission of packets in the uplink and downlink according to the quality of service. This is achieved exclusively using local settings that have been configured for individual TCLs, permitting a radical reduction in complexity compared to conventional methods. The method is further simplified by the described interlinking of different tasks or the linking of such tasks to an existing data transmission.

  • Publication number: 20080233959
Abstract: The invention at hand involves a method and an arrangement for optimizing the operational times and cell exchange performance of mobile terminals in a mobile communication network having adjacent radio cells. The mobile terminal temporarily stores network specific characteristics for adjacent radio cells which are not suitable for cell exchange when the mobile communication network is in operation and it uses said characteristics as decision criteria for cell exchange, and said information is used, in particular, to exclude said adjacent radio cells from additional radio technical measurements and identification methods. By implementing the terminal performance according to the inventive method, it is possible to significantly increase the operational times and the cell exchange performance of a mobile terminal in specific situations and to improve the service for a mobile radio customer.

  • Publication number: 20070161373
Abstract: A method for mobile radio suppliers to provide or share or jointly use a mobile radio access network is provided. Said method is characterized in that a single radio access network (9; 12), which is operated according to UMTS standard, cdma2000 standard, or GSM standard, for example, is jointly used by several mobile radio suppliers. In order to do so, the mobile radio networks comprise a common radio access network but separate core networks. Preferably several PLMN IDs are transmitted by the common radio access network and are made available to the user terminal for selection. The inventive method allows a joint radio access network to be made accessible to different mobile radio suppliers, a mobile radio user selecting one of several transmitted preferably PLMN IDs and using services (CS or PS) via the associated core network of the selected mobile radio operator.
