  • Publication number: 20250100234
Abstract: A process for fiberglass recovered from recycling of windmill or similar products at the end of lifecycle converted into a non-woven fiberglass mat and applying predetermined sizing. Sizing is applied to this fiberglass mat by spraying silane sizing on both sides of the mat. Recycled fiberglass content can be operably varied. Polyurethane resin can be sprayed onto either the recycled non-woven fiberglass mat alone or on a combination of recycled fiberglass mat and virgin fiberglass mat. This resin-impregnated mat is then placed onto a heated tool in a compression molding machine. Exemplary application of the recycled glass fiber mat is in electric vehicle composite battery cover and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle composite battery cover.

  • Publication number: 20240357781
Abstract: A method for electro-magnetic interference shielding (EMI) of a battery box (10) or other EMI emitting device in a vehicle. The method includes the steps of forming a battery box enclosure (10) with an effective amount of a shielding material (20) attached to the enclosure (10). In one embodiment the box (10) is an SMC or injection molded preformed enclosure (10), and a metallic material (20) is attached to the enclosure (10) on an interior or exterior side of the enclosure (10). In another embodiment the enclosure (10) and mesh (20) are formed in the same mold cavity (24) for embedding the shielding material (20) in the enclosure (10).

  • Publication number: 20220336900
Abstract: A lightweight battery housing for an automobile and method of assembling same. The lightweight battery housing comprises an upper cover, a tub, and a protection frame whereon the upper cover and lower tub sit. The upper cover and tub may comprise at least one of a steel material, an aluminum material, and/or a fiber-reinforced composite. The protection frame comprises at least one of steel material and aluminum material. The tub includes pockets for holding battery modules and seals against the cover to provide a leak-resistant battery holder. Fasteners connect the tub, cover, and protection frame and a seal is placed between the tub and the cover. The cover and other components of the battery housing may be integrated directly into a body-in-white of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20050064141
Abstract: A method is described for manufacturing a structural component (10) with a varnish exterior surface, with the steps of: providing of a varnish film (11), the exterior surface (18) of which is substantially smooth, thermoforming the varnish film and back molding the varnish film with a carrier material (12) in particular made of plastic, wherein during at least one of the two steps consisting of thermoforming and back molding, an exterior surface (18) of the varnish film is provided with a surface structure (21), which causes uneven reflection on the exterior surface.
