  • Patent number: 5700743
Abstract: A structural component which consists of a fiber-reinforced, composite material is provided with a protective coating against erosion. The protective coating includes an adhesion-promoting, intermediate layer on the component, an electrically insulating baked, inorganic lacquer layer for protection against erosion and an electrically conducting covering layer, for protection against lightning strikes. The covering layer consists of a baked and compressed inorganic lacquer and the lacquer of the lacquer layer and of the covering layer is baked on the component below the temperature which causes damage to the structural component or below the softening or decomposition temperature of the component. The protective layer is advantageously used for the external components of propulsion units, such as housings, nose cones or fan blades.

  • Patent number: 4878821
Abstract: An anti-rupture ring is slit axially at least at one location and is provided thereat with clamping devices which permit a rapid tightening and loosening of the anti-rupture ring. In one embodiment, the clamping of the anti-rupture ring can be varied hydraulically so as to minimize clearance losses in operation. The invention can be used in all types of turbo engines endangered by breakage of rotor blades, particularly in aircraft gas turbine construction, and it permits simple, damage-free mounting and a well-defined clamping of the anti-rupture ring.

  • Patent number: 4710346
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing powders comprising converting a solid starting material from the solid state to the gaseous or vapor phase, and forming powder particles by transferring the starting material in gaseous or vapor phase into a sealed reaction chamber with nucleation agents. The reaction chamber includes a wall of bellows construction to enable the chamber to expand and contract and a radiation reflecting coating is provided on at least a portion of the wall. The reaction chamber is subjected to one or more conditions of outer space. The powder particles can be supplied to a shaping stage in which the powder particles are compressed into compacts or formed into the final shape of a desired component.

  • Patent number: 4339229
Abstract: A rotor wheel, particularly for compressors, including a rotor disc and a plurality of radially-projecting metal blades arranged along the periphery of the disc. A plurality of locating rings, formed predominantly of directionalized fibers, are provided, each locating ring being adjacent to all the blade roots and serving to resist centrifugal loads on the blades. An attachment ring formed predominantly of undirectionalized fibers surrounds the periphery of the rotor disc, and all the blade roots and locating rings are embedded in the attachment ring. The attachment ring serves to attach the blades to the rotor disc. Each blade root may have a T-shape and each locating ring engages over the cross bar of the T of each root. Alternatively, each blade root may have a hole accommodating a pin, and each locating ring engages over the pin of each blade root. Each blade root may have a plurality of sections, a single pin passing through holes in all of the sections of each root.

  • Patent number: 4285634
Abstract: A gas turbine blade constituted of a supportive metallic blade core and a thin-walled ceramic blade airfoil, in which the airfoil is supported against a tip plate of the blade core. The blade core consists of rod or wire-shaped pins which have widened bases at their radially inner ends. Through these widened bases, the pins are retained in a metallic adapter slidable into a turbine disc.

  • Patent number: 4271112
Abstract: Process for producing a high-strength, rotationally-symmetrical component by appending short fibers of glass, carbon or aramid in an organic solvent, and depositing the fiber material in a rotating sieve-like receptacle through a radially movable nozzle. The produced preform is impregnated with a matrix of resin and hardener and pressed into its final shape.
