  • Publication number: 20170196026
Abstract: A system and method of controlling selection of cellular profiles at a vehicle includes: detecting a call placed at the vehicle equipped with a vehicle telematics unit that subscribes to cellular service provided by a wireless carrier system; detecting, at the vehicle telematics unit, one or more cell towers providing service only for a different wireless carrier system; directing the vehicle telematics unit to stop use of a cellular profile configured for the wireless carrier system and begin use of a different cellular profile configured for the different wireless carrier system; and placing the call from the vehicle telematics unit using the different cellular profile and a cell tower belonging to the different wireless carrier system.

  • Patent number: 9374772
Abstract: A method for implementation at a processor of a vehicular telematics unit is described. The method allows data structures formatted to store one or more wireless network communication parameters to be updated in response to a swap of a subscription with one network service provider for a subscription with a different network service provider. The method includes receiving, from a network access device of the vehicular telematics unit, a home public land mobile network (HPLMN) identifier corresponding to a wireless network service provider corresponding to an active subscription. The method also includes identifying, in a set of one or more access point name (APN) data structures each having a public land mobile network (PLMN) identifier field, a matching APN data structure having the HPLMN identifier stored at its PLMN element and designating the matching APN data structure as active.

  • Patent number: 9224250
Abstract: A method of removing a vehicle telematics unit from an invalid state includes sensing that the vehicle telematics unit wirelessly received an invalid state code that deactivates the communication function of the vehicle telematics unit from a base station of a wireless carrier system; determining at the vehicle telematics unit that a reset trigger applicable to invalid state codes has been activated; and commanding the vehicle telematics unit to reset the invalid state code when the reset trigger has been activated thereby permitting the vehicle telematics unit to resume its communication function.

  • Patent number: 9179488
Abstract: A method of re-establishing a cellular connection between a vehicle telematics unit and a wireless carrier system includes detecting a loss of cellular connection between a vehicle telematics unit and a wireless carrier system; accessing a technology order table (TOT) that orders a plurality of radio access technologies (RATs) capable of use at the vehicle telematics unit according to desirability; attempting to re-establish the cellular connection by: determining the RAT used by the vehicle telematics unit when the loss of cellular connection was detected; searching the TOT to locate a less desirable RAT relative to the RAT used by the vehicle telematics unit when the loss of cellular connection was detected; attempting to connect with the wireless carrier system using the less desirable RAT and a group of PLMNs that is limited to home and home-equivalent PLMNs; and if that attempt fails, attempting to connect with the wireless carrier system by iterating through each of the RATs ordered in the TOT beginning
