Patent number: 10563652Abstract: A variable displacement vane pump includes a biasing element for urging the control ring toward a first position that corresponds to a maximum volumetric capacity of the pump. Fluid pressure within a control chamber urges the control ring toward the second position. A feedback path is in communication with a fluid outlet of the pump for supplying a pressurized fluid. A first supply path provides the pressurized fluid to the fluid inlet. A second supply path provides the pressurized fluid to the control chamber. A valve controls flow of the pressurized fluid via the second supply path by moving between a fully open position and a fully closed position in which flow of the pressurized fluid along the second supply path is prevented by the valve. Moving the valve from the open position to the closed position increases the fluid pressure within the control chamber.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2014Date of Patent: February 18, 2020Assignee: Melling Tool CompanyInventors: Ayres Pinto De Andrade Filho, João Luiz De Carvalho Meira, Eduardo Gubbiotti Ribeiro

Patent number: 10060328Abstract: A system for regulating a flow of liquid coolant in an automotive cooling system includes a valve body having an inlet and an outlet. A pressure operated valve member moves in response to a fluid pressure. An electrically operated valve member regulates the fluid pressure within the chamber. A sensor target is coupled to the pressure operated valve member. A position sensor is located outside of the valve body and outputs a position signal based on proximity of the sensor target. An electronic control unit calculates a target coolant flow rate based in part on a calculated target temperature for the engine and a temperature signal from a temperature sensor, determines a target position for the pressure operated valve member based on the target coolant flow rate, and controls operation of the electrically operated valve member based on the target position and the position signal.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2013Date of Patent: August 28, 2018Assignee: Melling Tool CompanyInventors: Ayres Pinto de Andrade Filho, João Luiz de Carvalho Meira, Paulo Bressan, Rodrigo Barbosa Bronzeri

Publication number: 20170306948Abstract: A variable displacement vane pump that includes a biasing assembly that applies a first biasing force to a pump control ring when the pump control ring is located a first position and a second position and applies a second biasing force when the pump control ring is located between the second position and a third position. The first position of the pump control ring corresponds to a maximum volumetric capacity of the pump, the second position corresponds to an intermediary volumetric capacity of the pump, and the third position corresponds to a minimum volumetric capacity of the pump. Fluid pressure within a control chamber urges the pump control ring toward the third position.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2014Publication date: October 26, 2017Applicant: Melling Tool CompanyInventors: Ayres Pinto De Andrade Filho, João Luiz De Carvalho Meira, Eduardo Gubbiotti Ribeiro

Patent number: 9239045Abstract: An oil pump assembly for use with an internal combustion engine having an engine block, a crankshaft that is rotatable with respect to the engine block on a crankshaft axis, and a sump that is connected to the engine block for receiving and storing oil therein. The oil pump assembly includes a housing and a drive assembly that is arranged on the housing. The drive assembly is connected to the crankshaft for rotation in unison therewith. An oil pump is connected to the housing for pumping oil between an inlet and an outlet of the oil pump in response to rotation of a drive shaft. The drive shaft is connected to the drive assembly for rotation in unison therewith.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2010Date of Patent: January 19, 2016Assignee: Melling do Brasil Componentes Automotivos Ltds.Inventors: Eduardo Gubbiotti Ribeiro, Ayres Pinto de Andrade Filho, Joao Luiz de Carvalho Meira

Patent number: 8714939Abstract: A water pump includes a housing, a pumping mechanism, and a pulley that receives an input torque. Rotation of a clutch disk provides a rotational force to the pumping mechanism. A ferromagnetic clutch ring rotates in unison with the pulley. The clutch ring moves between a disengaged position and an engaged position to selectively rotate the clutch disk in response to the input torque. A magnet disposed on the clutch disk attracts the clutch ring toward the engaged position, and an electromagnetic coil is operable to selectively diminish the attraction of the clutch ring to the magnet to move the clutch ring between the engaged and disengaged positions.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2008Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Melling do Brasil Componentes Automotivos Ltds.Inventors: Joao Luiz de Carvalho Meira, Eduardo Gubbiotti Ribeiro, Ayres Pinto de Andrade Filho, Sergio Satoshi Endo
