  • Patent number: 5061672
Abstract: The active mass is produced by first forming a contact mass of particulate silicon metal and particulate copper catalyst and then heating the contact mass at a temperature of between 250.degree.-335.degree. C. in the presence of methylchloride to form the active mass. Zinc can be added to the contact mass.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 30, 1990

    Inventor: Azza A. Elattar
  • Patent number: 4824984
Abstract: There is provided a method and a catalyst for the direct production of organohalosilanes from elemental silicon and an alkylhalide. The catalytic material is characterized by the presence therein of zinc, the source of zinc in said catalyst being selected from the group consisting of zinc carbonate, zinc formate, zinc acetate, zinc vinyl acetate, zinc propionate, zinc butyrate, zinc beta-chlorobutyrate and zinc gamma-chlorobutyrate. These sources of zinc overcome problems encountered with zinc metal and zinc halides, commonly used as sources of zinc.

  • Patent number: 4515901
Abstract: An interlayered pillared clay is formed by the steps of mixing a clay with a polar solvent, a soluble carbohydrate, and a soluble pillaring agent. The mixture is then heated to form the interlayered pillared clay. Useful clays are smectites such as montmorillonite.
