  • Method of preparing prostaglandin B.sub.1 derivatives

    Abstract: An improved method for synthesizing and purifying PGB.sub.x, a mixture of lymers of prostaglandin B.sub.1. PGB.sub.x activity is assayed by measuring the minimum amount of PGB.sub.x required to restore complete phosphorylation ability to isolated rat liver mitochondria, first aged and degraded to the point where they exhibit less than 5% of the phosphorylating ability of normal mitochondria. A higher and more reproducible yield of PGB.sub.x of improved quality have been produced thereby.

  • Novel prostaglandin derivatives, certain in vivo and in vitro effects thereof and processes for the preparation of same

    Abstract: The novel prostaglandins PGB.sub.x are useful for a wide variety of in vivo and in vitro biological properties, including the reversal of degenerative changes in mitochondria, the protection of the heart against cardiac insults, the protection and reversal of anoxic damage to the brain, and the improvement of mammalian performance for conditioned psychological tasks. These prostaglandins PGB.sub.x are prepared, for example, by the base catalyzed reaction of PGB.sub.1.
