Abstract: An airbag for a motor vehicle includes an airbag skin having two side walls which enclose a gas chamber. The airbag skin is at least partially rolled to a shaped package in the resting state of the curtain airbag, with the shaped package having a non-circular cross-section. In order to provide a cost-effective way to produce such an airbag and to ensure that the airbag shows a deployment behaviour of a rolled package, the non-circular cross-section is permanent as long as the pressure inside the gas chamber does not exceed the pressure of the environment and is obtainable by plastic conversion of a rolled package with a circular cross-section.

Abstract: A curtain airbag for installation in the roof frame area of a motor vehicle exhibits at least one guide chamber which is located in the upper section of curtain airbag and which is connected with its inflatable area from the point of view of gas flow. The at least one guide chamber can be inflated on the outer side of the curtain airbag when this is in a mounted state. The upper section of curtain airbag is directed downwards when in the mounted state.

Abstract: In at least one embodiment of the present invention, an airbag unit is provided. The airbag unit comprises an airbag made of fabric. The unit has fastening devices for attaching the airbag to a motor vehicle. A cover section is proximate to the fastening devices and is fastened to the airbag. The cover section is configured to not completely cover the airbag when the airbag is in an unrolled state and forms a wrapping of the airbag when the airbag is rolled-up with the cover section to define rolled-up state.
