  • Publication number: 20240113500
Abstract: A system and method for optical coupling. In some embodiments, the system includes a first semiconductor chip, including a semiconductor optical amplifier; and a second semiconductor chip, including a fork coupler. The fork coupler may includes a plurality of waveguide fingers, and an output waveguide. The waveguide fingers may be configured to guide, together, a first optical mode of the fork coupler; and the fork coupler may be arranged such that an output mode of the semiconductor optical amplifier couples to the first optical mode of the fork coupler.

  • Patent number: 11569631
Abstract: A laser source includes a topological cavity for nonreciprocal lasing, a magnetic material and an optical waveguide. The magnetic material is arranged to interact with the topological cavity. The optical waveguide is arranged to receive light extracted from the topological cavity upon breaking of time-reversal symmetry in the topological cavity.

  • Publication number: 20220173574
Abstract: An optical integrated light source includes a plurality of topological ring resonators. Each of the topological ring resonators is defined by an interface between two distinct periodic structures having different topological invariants such that a one-way edge mode may be excited along the interface. A magnetic material is arranged to interact with the plurality of topological ring resonators such that the optical integrated light source is structured and configured to generate plural beams each carrying large orbital angular momentum.

  • Patent number: 11296484
Abstract: A bound states in the continuum (BIC) surface emitting laser includes a light emitter configured to generate BIC light waves. The laser also includes an array of holes with equal radii extending through the light emitter such that light emitted by the light emitter upon receipt of power is emitted as a coherent vortex beam at an angle to a surface normal of the light emitter that is determined at least in part by the radius of the holes in the array.
