Abstract: A system and method for writing Indian languages using the English writing scheme is provided that includes specifying a script using the English alphabet to represent the various characters and character combinations in various Indian languages. The specified script follows the writing conventions of English. This script is based on how the Indian languages are spoken and rules are specified to facilitate mapping the sounds represented in English characters to the native language in its written form. This common method is intended for writing Hindi and related languages, such as Sanskrit, Marathi, and Gujarathi, and Bengali and somewhat distant, but closely related Dravidian languages, such as Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, and Telegu.

Abstract: A method for location-based call distribution is provided that includes receiving from a customer communication device a request to establish a communication session with an agent communication device based on a specified telephone number. An agent database is searched for the specified telephone number. Location data corresponding to the specified telephone number is retrieved from the agent database when the specified telephone number is found in the agent database. The customer communication device is located. The agent communication device that is nearest to the customer communication device is located based on the retrieved location data. A communication session is established between the customer communication device and the nearest agent communication device.

Abstract: A system, intelligent network service engine and method are described than can perform a real time fraud analysis on an originating side of a call stream to determine whether or not a call is a fraudulent call before the call is connected to a called party. In particular, the system includes a switch capable of receiving a call originated by a calling party and an intelligent network service engine capable receiving information (e.g., call origination data) about the call from the switch. The intelligent network service engine (e.g., home location register, service control point, INSight platform) then uses real time fraud management tools to analyze the call origination data to determine whether or not the call has a fraudulent attribute before the call is connected to a called party. The system can be configured as a wired communications network, a wireless communications network and/or an Internet network.

Abstract: A telecommunications system, service control point and method are provided that can establish specialized dialing plan(s) utilizing one or more of the unused country codes in the traditional international dialing plan. In particular, the telecommunications system could translate the digits of a telephone call having an international access code and a previously unused country code to direct the telephone call to a service provider instead of a foreign country. The service provider could then manage one of the new dialing plans and offer a variety of services to their customers including, for example, global vanity numbers, global local number portability, global Internet access, and private dialing plans.

Abstract: A call party profile presentation system and method for use in a multimedia-capable network for delivering a party's presentation profile to a subscriber at call setup or during the call in order to uniquely identify the party. A multimedia session engine is operable to launch a call treatment application for the subscriber with respect to a call between a call party and the subscriber. Logic associated with the call treatment application determines an appropriate portion of the call party's presentation profile to be provided to the subscriber based on subscriber selection, call party presentation restrictions, or both. A multimedia interface operable with the subscriber's terminal is actuated for delivering an indicium associated with the selected portion of the call party's presentation profile to the subscriber.

Abstract: A method for identifying a caller based on voice recognition is provided that includes receiving call data from a communication device through a communication network. The call data comprises voice data for a user of the communication device. A search is performed for an identifying data match based on the call data. A voice recognition system is activated when an identifying data match is found and uniquely identifies a user. A search is performed for a first voice pattern match with the voice recognition system based on the call data. A user identifier corresponding to the first voice pattern is provided to the communication network when the first voice pattern match is found, the user identifier operable to identify the user of the communication device.

Abstract: A call treatment system and method in a multimedia-capable network for providing an enhanced call waiting service wherein multiple calls waiting to be serviced are accorded different treatments based on multimedia responses. When a network element serving a subscriber currently engaged in an established call connection with a party receives an indication that an incoming call is being directed towards the subscriber from at least one calling party, a multimedia session engine is invoked by the network element to launch a call treatment application for the subscriber. If the number of calls allowed to wait on the subscriber exceeds a predetermined maximum value, the incoming call is accorded a predetermined default treatment. Otherwise, the call treatment application is operable to query a subscriber profile associated with the subscriber to determine a suitable multimedia interface to be presented for effectuating a response using a browser-based interactive system.

Abstract: An electronic device is described which can be used by a user to unlock a locked password protected electronic device (e.g., PDA, wireless phone, laptop computer, personal computer . . . ). To unlock the locked password protected electronic device, the user activates the electronic device to wirelessly transmit a password (e.g., electronic key) towards the locked password protected electronic device. The locked password protected electronic device uses the received password to unlock itself so that the user does not have to remember the password and also does not have to physically input the password into the locked password protected electronic device in order to unlock and use the password protected electronic device. The electronic device can also be used by the user to lock an unlocked password protected electronic device. Moreover, the electronic device can be incorporated within an article that the user generally has in his/her possession including a ring or a watch.

Abstract: A telecommunications system, service control point and method are described that can pre-screen a telephone call to help prevent telephone toll fraud. More specifically, the telecommunications system includes a service control point capable of receiving information about a telephone call originated by a calling party, and further capable of determining whether the telephone call has a fraudulent attribute. If the telephone call has a fraudulent attribute, then the calling party is informed that there is a possibility of telephone toll fraud occurring if the telephone call is connected to a called party. And, if the telephone call does not have a fraudulent attribute, then the telephone call is automatically connected to the called party.

Abstract: A telecommunications system, apparatus and method are described that are capable of providing an alphanumeric speed dialing service. Basically, the apparatus includes a database having a table of stored alphanumeric speed dialing codes (e.g., “MOM, “D”, “BILL”, “GB”, “HOLLY”) and stored phone numbers that where provided by a calling party (subscriber). A one-way or two-way direct connect session to the appropriate destination or destinations is commenced thereafter based on at least a portion of the applicable service profile options.

Abstract: A user verification system and method for use in a multimedia-capable network wherein access to controlled facilities such as, e.g, corporate or enterprise networks, home networks, physical locations, access-controlled services, and the like, is verified using multimedia response criteria. When an indication signifying that a user is attempting to access the controlled facility is received in a network element, a multimedia session engine is invoked for launching an access service application. Responsive to an interrogation procedure, multimedia responses associated with the user are captured and verified against a stored access control profile. Access to the controlled facility is granted only when the responses are validated.

Abstract: A distinctive call notification system and method for use in a multimedia-capable network for delivering a select alert to a subscriber with respect to an incoming call from a calling party. Upon receiving the incoming call from the calling party at a network element serving the subscriber, a multimedia session engine is invoked to launch a call treatment application for the subscriber. Based on at least a portion of the parametric information relating to the incoming call, a call notification database is queried to determine applicable service options and preferences. Based thereon, an intelligent multimedia application determines a particular call alert/notification mode to be provided. A multimedia-capable interface operable with the subscriber terminal is actuated thereafter in order to effectuate the selected call alert mode with respect to the incoming call.

Abstract: A personalized calling party ID display service in a telecommunications network. Upon initiating a phone call by a calling party towards a called party having a caller ID service, an access code associated with the present invention's service is operable to be effectuated by the calling party. In one embodiment, the calling party selects a particular identification indicium by entering a numeric code. In another embodiment, the calling party dynamically enters a personalized identification indicium at the calling party's station. Where an identification indicium has not been selected or entered, a default indicium may be provided by the network. The service logic is operable to replace or augment a conventional caller ID parameter with the personalized identification indicium based on a service profile query, with the dynamically entered identification indicium, or with a default indicium, and transmit the indicium to the called party provided the caller ID service is active.

Abstract: An emergency message notification and override system and method for use in a multimedia-capable network for effectuating a subscriber-selectable notification scheme with respect to an incoming emergency message directed to a subscriber from an authorized entity. Upon receiving the incoming emergency message at a network node serving the subscriber, a multimedia session engine is invoked to launch a call treatment application for the subscriber. Based on at least a portion of the parametric information relating to the incoming emergency message, an emergency notification profile associated with the subscriber is queried to determine a particular emergency alert scheme to be provided. A multimedia-capable interface operable with the subscriber terminal is actuated thereafter without interrupting the current session in order to effectuate the selected emergency alert scheme with respect to the incoming emergency message.
