    Abstract: An alarm system includes an alarm device connected to a network. The alarm device is used to activate a reverse timer during a potential emergency situation. The user is prompted to enter a code at the end of the time period for the reverse timer. If the proper code is entered, then the timer is restarted and information about the alarm device is sent over the network. If the proper code is not entered, then an emergency situation is determined and the proper authorities alerted.
