  • Patent number: 9572079
Abstract: A system and method are provided for intelligently incorporating a mmWave communication link in a heterogeneous cellular/Wi-Fi networking environment. The combination improves overall data transmission capacity of the heterogeneous networking environment, and also provides superior user Quality of Experience. The combination of the mmWave communication link with the cellular/Wi-Fi communication system is integrated in a synergistic manner that allows each of the individual communication technologies to complement the other. Using highly-directional beamforming antennas the mmWave communication link provides wide area network coverage by deploying a plurality of directional beams in sectors to complement the coverage area of the wide area network systems operating in other frequency bands.

  • Publication number: 20140189172
Abstract: A WiFi serial bus (WSB) attribute for use in Wi-Fi Alliance defined point-to-point (P2P) discovery mechanism includes a plurality of fields disposed in the frame. The WiFi serial bus attribute is arranged to provide information in the plurality of fields to support connectivity decisions for a USB device in a point-to-point network using a WSB protocol. The WSB attribute includes WSB architectural element information and information associated with a USB device behind a USB protocol adaptation layer (PAL).

  • Publication number: 20140177612
Abstract: Some embodiments described herein include apparatuses and methods to send a first message from a first wireless communication station during service discovery to discover a service supported by a second wireless communication station. The first wireless communication may also send a second message to the second wireless communication station if the first wireless communication station receives a response message from the second wireless communication station indicating that the service included in the first message is supported by the second wireless communication station. The second message may include more information about the service than the first message. The first message may be sent before a wireless connection is established between the first and second wireless communication stations. Other embodiments including additional apparatuses and methods are described.
