Publication number: 20090083621Abstract: A method and computer implemented system may be used to abstract an electronic document. A user is prompted to select at least one abstracted version of the electronic document. A set of instructions is selected for abstracting the electronic document, and the abstracted version is created by executing the selected set of instructions. The instructions may be generic or particularized to the electronic document. The abstracted version of the electronic document is then outputted in a predetermined format.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 25, 2008Publication date: March 26, 2009Inventor: Bahram G. Kermani

Patent number: 6942968Abstract: The invention relates methods of improving signal detection from an array and methods for background subtraction in an array. The invention provides for novel array compositions including arrays with wells with different shapes, or surfaces coated with reflective or selectively absorptive coatings. In addition, the array include a signal transducer element.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2000Date of Patent: September 13, 2005Assignee: Illumina, Inc.Inventors: Todd A. Dickinson, Shawn Meade, Steven M. Barnard, Anthony W. Czarnik, James Bierle, Bahram G. Kermani, Mark S. Chee

Patent number: 6504528Abstract: The invention is a computer mouse-device/mouse-pad combination in which the mouse device and mouse-pad are magnetically attracted to each other so that a mouse device will stay fixed to the mouse-pad when the mouse-pad is at an angle to the horizontal. Preferably, the mouse device is magnetized by an electromagnetic magnet which is controlled to be sensitive to the touch of the user such that the magnetic force is weakened or turned off when the user touches the mouse device and is turned on full force when the user's hand is not in contact with the mouse device.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2000Date of Patent: January 7, 2003Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Bahram G. Kermani, Surender Dayal

Publication number: 20020150909Abstract: The invention relates to the use of a computer system to compare images generated from a randomly ordered array. This system preserves the relative position of each site within the array so that the same site can be compared in different images.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 9, 2001Publication date: October 17, 2002Inventors: John R. Stuelpnagel, Mark S. Chee, Todd A. Dickinson, Bahram G. Kermani, Juergen Haas

Patent number: 6314499Abstract: A multiple agent system providing each of a plurality of agents, i.e., processors, access to a shared synchronous memory. A super agent may be an agent from among a plurality of agents which accesses a shared synchronous memory most frequently. The super agent has direct access to the shared synchronous memory, without negotiation and/or arbitration, while the non-super agents access the shared synchronous memory under the control of an arbiter-and-switch. Open windows are generated when the super agent is not accessing the shared synchronous memory. The non-super agents can be allowed interim access to the shared synchronous memory even before the super agent terminates ownership of the shared synchronous memory.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1998Date of Patent: November 6, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventor: Bahram G. Kermani

Patent number: 6239510Abstract: An apparatus and method for reducing variations in a supply voltage signal. The voltage signal which powers a circuit is regulated by adding or removing a series of redundant loads to the circuit. The redundant loads are normally not connected to the circuit. However, when one of the loads of the circuit is switched out of the circuit, one or more of the redundant loads are switched into the circuit, and then removed gradually from the circuit. When one of the loads of the circuit is to be switched into the circuit, one or more of the redundant loads are switched into the circuit first, then switched out of the circuit when the load is switched in. Thus, the voltage supply sees almost the same load during a turn-on and turn-off transition period, and variations in the voltage signal are reduced.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1999Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Kouros Azimi, Bahram G. Kermani, Jonathan H. Fischer

Patent number: 6226726Abstract: Memory banks are assigned to the memory map of a common processor in an order corresponding to a physical characteristic of the respective memory bank, e.g., a physical distance to the processor and/or an electrical distance to the processor. In this way, the operating frequency of the processor can be increased beyond conventionally guaranteed limits at the expense of abandoning the farthest memory banks when not necessary for a particular application. Similarly, abandonment of the farther memory banks in accordance with the principles of the present invention allows operation of the processing system at higher temperatures and/or lower power voltages. In another embodiment of the present invention, wait states may be added to accesses to the farther memory banks such that the closest memory banks may be operated at the highest possible performance level, e.g., without any wait states.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1998Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Bahram G. Kermani, Vladimir Sindalovsky
