  • Patent number: 8699472
Abstract: In a first embodiment, when an Activate PDP Context Request message is forwarded to a Service GPRS Support Node (SGSN), the SGSN creates a Create PDP Context Request message and forwards it to a Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN). In response to the Create PDP Context Request forwarded by the SGSN, the GGSN creates a Create PDP Context Response message. When a PDP context is created by the GGSN, the GGSN associates a Globally Unique Charging Identification (GCI) with the PDP context. Then, the Create PDP Context Response including the GCI is forwarded to the SGSN. The GCI is sent from the SGSN to the UE and from the UE to the CSCF. In a second embodiment, the GCI is sent from the SGSN or the GGSN directly to the Call State Control Function (CSCF). Sending the GCI can be performed either autonomously or based on a request from the CSCF.

  • Patent number: 8462798
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided for multiplexing different sessions using the same authorized contexts for media. The method includes distinguishing different control plane sessions by a user equipment, and identifying media flows of a same application among the different control plane sessions by the user equipment by setting a service identifier. The method further includes sending the service identifier by the user equipment to a call state control function including a policy decision function, and authorizing quality of service for a user plane context by the policy decision function. Furthermore, the method includes enabling, by the policy decision function based on the service identifier, the different control plane sessions with media flows of the same application to share the same user plane context with the authorized quality of service to multiplex the different control plane sessions with media flows of the same application.

  • Patent number: 7864734
Abstract: The invention relates to a communication method and system wherein a network element of a roaming user is attachable to a visited first network and may still be served by a serving means of the home network. The network element of the roaming user is able to indicate a preference, e.g. home or local control, when registering or initiating a connection. A network element of the visited network such as proxy means adds information on the indicated preference when sending a message to the home network. The message is preferably sent as a protocol message, in particular a message of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

  • Patent number: 7277702
Abstract: A method for tracing a session or call in a network environment, comprising the step of transmitting a trace invocation from a control plane network element to another control pane network element or a user plane network element. According to a first aspect, a trace report is generated in the S-CSCF of the called party. This overcomes the lack of being able to provide detailed information about the interworking between the User Equipment (UE) and the IMS, in setting up IP multimedia sessions. According to a second aspect trace reports are generated in all the network functions involved in session setup.

  • Patent number: 7123920
Abstract: In a technique for setting up calls in IP mobile networks, when an application level in a mobile station sends a setup message to set up a multimedia call, before sending such a message over the radio interface, the mobile station performs the appropriate procedures to setup the appropriate bearers over the radio interface and in the network to satisfy the call requirements specified by the application level in the setup message. The technique applies to both mobile originated calls and mobile terminated calls, the called mobile station performing the transport level procedures after having received a setup message and before sending a confirmation/call acceptance message back to the calling party. Furthermore, the allocation of radio resources for PDP contexts that will be used to carry the media of a multimedia IP called is delayed so that no radio resources are allocated to the PDP contexts activated before the call control signaling is exchanged.

  • Patent number: 7051082
Abstract: A communications system and method for providing services to a subscriber of the system is provided. The system includes a system element controlling call processing, service data for a subscriber of the system, and an element for storing subscriber data. The system is configured to associate an indicator with a service data structure of the service data of a subscriber. The element for storing subscriber data is configured to store the service data structure of the service data of the subscriber associated with the indicator. The system is configured to transmit from the element for storing subscriber data service data of a subscriber comprising the service data structure associated with the indicator to the system element controlling call processing service.

  • Publication number: 20050180338
Abstract: A mobile station and method thereof are provided to communicate with one or more communication networks or stand-alone devices and establishing and monitoring a quality performance level of a video call. A controller in the mobile station establishes the video call between the mobile station and a receiver, monitors the quality performance level of the video call, determines whether the quality performance level of the video call is less than a threshold level, and, when the quality performance level is below the threshold level, establishes the voice call and dynamically swaps the video call with the voice call and vice-versa based on determining the quality performance level and signal strength.

  • Publication number: 20050026558
Abstract: A method and system of flow based charging for IP multimedia system services are disclosed. The system includes a call processing server, and a session charging functionality. The method comprises negotiating media to be used within a session during a session initiating signaling. The method also includes generating a set of charging flow identifiers according to a predefined mechanism. The set of charging flow identifiers are associated with respective charging identifiers of the IP multimedia system identifying the session. A charging identifier of the IP multimedia system and a charging flow identifier globally uniquely identify a media component within a session. The call processing server and the session charging functionality generate the same charging flow identifiers by using the predefined mechanism so that the charging flow identifiers are known before any resource reservation occurs.
