  • Publication number: 20180124868
Abstract: The present invention provides methods for improving performance and reducing power consumption in a dual subscriber identification module (SIM) dual standby (DSDS) device. According to one example embodiment, the DSDS device enhances the usage of a single RF resource to be shared between a first SIM and a second SIM of the DSDS device based on one or more entry and exit conditions. The DSDS device allows the first SIM to use the RF resource for a data session while it restricts the second SIM from performing neighbor cell measurements when entry conditions are met. By restricting the neighbour cell measurement operations on the second SIM, the DSDS device enables the first SIM to use the RF resource for an extended time thereby improving data rates in the DSDS device. Further, the DSDS device allows the second SIM to perform neighbor cell measurements when the exit conditions are met.

  • Patent number: 9888413
Abstract: A method for providing IDLE mode multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS) continuity in a telecommunication network is provided. The method includes providing an MBMS of interest for a user equipment (UE) from a first cell in the telecommunication network, using an MBMS gateway, performing a cell re-selection measurement of at least a second cell using the UE, the second cell being a neighboring cell to the first cell, wherein the cell re-selection measurement comprises determining a configuration of the second cell to facilitate an MBMS and determining a signal strength matching a predetermined strength value, and selecting one of the first cell and the second cell using the UE, which is configured to facilitate the MBMS and has a signal strength value at least equal to the predetermined strength value and greater than the other cell.

  • Publication number: 20170208443
Abstract: A method of adaptively reporting buffer status by a dual subscriber identity module dual standby (DSDS) terminal is provided. The method includes computing a rate at which uplink (UL) grants are allocated by a network over a period of time for a first subscriber unit associated with the DSDS terminal, determining a first time period to initiate buffer status reporting (BSR) using a radio frequency (RF) unit, wherein the first time period corresponds to a time period in which a BSR interval initializes, determining a second time period in which a second subscriber unit associated with the DSDS terminal requires the RF unit, and adaptively reporting the buffer status based on the rate and a difference between the second time period and the first time period.

  • Publication number: 20160262001
Abstract: Apparatuses (including, but not limited to, user equipment (UE) and base stations, such as evolved Node Bs (eNBs)), systems, and methods for managing resource allocation and utilization for multi-hop device to device (D2D) communication are described. In one method, a UE sends a request to a network for a resource by which the UE can perform initial device discovery in order to perform D2D communication. If available, the network grants the resource and the UE performs initial device discovery using the resource, which includes calculating communication metrics. The UE then sends information based on the initial device discovery to the network which, based at least on that information and if available, sends back a grant for a resource for device discovery. The UE uses the grant to perform device discovery, which includes re-calculating the communication metrics.

  • Publication number: 20160249408
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for releasing a radio resource control (RRC) connection in a wireless communication network. A user equipment (UE) monitors the RRC connection. The UE performs a local RRC connection release when the UE has failed to receive an RRC connection release message from a network based on a predefined criterion. The RRC transmits an RRC connection release indication to the network. A first subscriber identity module (SIM) is transitioned from an RRC connected mode to an RRC idle mode.

  • Patent number: 9319915
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system of providing minimization drive test (MDT) measurement information to a base station in a wireless communication network. In one embodiment, a method includes indicating availability of MDT measurement information logged by user equipment to a base station in a wireless network environment. The method further includes receiving an information request message to transfer the MDT measurement information in response to the indication. The method includes transmitting an information response message including at least a portion of the MDT measurement information to the base station, where the information response message indicates whether any portion of MDT measurement information is leftover with the user equipment. The method then includes repeating the above steps of receiving and transmitting till the entire MDT measurement information is transferred to the base station.
