  • Patent number: 11970421
Abstract: Glass articles including one or more 3D printed surface features attached to a surface of a substrate at a contact interface between the 3D printed surface feature and the surface. The 3D printed surface feature(s) include a glass or a glass-ceramic, a compressive stress region at an exterior perimeter surface of the 3D printed surface feature(s), and a central tension region interior of the compressive stress region. The 3D printed surface feature(s) may be formed of a contiguous preformed material 3D printed on a surface of a substrate. The compressive stress region of a 3D printed surface feature may be formed using an ion-exchange process.

  • Patent number: 11906483
Abstract: An apparatus for testing a sheet of brittle material is disclosed. The apparatus can include a plurality of assemblies configured for selectively applying a 3-point bending load on an edge of the sheet of material in a test region of the apparatus, a detection mechanism that optically measures strain in the sheet of material in the region, and a processor that determines the stress in the sheet based on the measured strain by calculating the stress that would be required to produce the measured strain in the sheet of material.

  • Patent number: 11906482
Abstract: An apparatus for testing the edge strength of a discrete sheet of material such as glass where the sheet has an irregular free-form shaped outline is disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20230328907
Abstract: A bendable glass article having a bendable display unit is disclosed. The glass article includes a glass sheet including a first major surface and a second major surface opposite to the first major surface. A hinge mechanism is disposed on the second major surface of the glass sheet. The hinge mechanism divides the glass sheet into a first side and a second side. A bendable display unit is bonded to the second major surface of the glass sheet and disposed between the glass sheet and the hinge mechanism. An adhesive material is disposed on the second major surface of the glass sheet around the display. The first side is bendable about the hinge mechanism relative to the second side, and the bendable display unit is hermetically sealed within the adhesive material.

  • Patent number: 11573078
Abstract: Apparatus can comprise a cavity at least partially defined by a first major surface of a reference block and configured to receive a sample. The apparatus can comprise a first polarization-switching light source configured to emit a first polarization-switched light beam toward the cavity and a first detector configured to detect a corresponding signal. The apparatus can comprise a second polarization-switching light source configured to emit a second polarization-switched light beam toward the cavity and a second detector configured to detect a corresponding signal. The first reference block can be positioned between the second detector and the second reference block. Methods of determining an estimated stress profile can comprise determining a central tension from a measured retardation profile of the sample. Methods can comprise determining an initial stress profile from a refractive index profile of the sample. Methods can comprise scaling and adjusting stress profiles.
