    Abstract: The disclosure provides a catalytic process for selective isomerization of 2-ethyl-1-butene in a linear alpha olefin stream that includes feeding a linear alpha olefin stream comprising a linear alpha olefin and 2-ethyl-1-butene to a reactor housing a modified alumina catalyst to isomerize at least a portion of the 2-ethyl-1-butene to cis- or trans-3-methyl-2-pentene, the period during which said feeding occurs being time on stream; withdrawing an effluent from the reactor containing less 2-ethyl-1-butene than the linear alpha olefin stream; and periodically regenerating the modified alumina catalyst by introducing a non-oxidizing environment to the reactor at time on stream intervals of no more than about 200 hours, wherein the reactor is subjected to the non-oxidizing environment for a time period of about 15 hours or greater and wherein the non-oxidizing environment has a temperature of about 250° C. or greater for at least a portion of the time period.

    Abstract: The present disclosure provides for processes and catalysts for enhancing a linear alpha-olefin product stream from an oligomerization reaction. A catalyst composition including a first zeolite and a second zeolite is provided, the first and second zeolites each having an average pore size of greater than about 6 ?, wherein the catalyst composition has a Brönsted Acid Site (BAS) equivalent of about 1.0 mmol/g catalyst or less, and wherein the first zeolite is at least partially metal ion-exchanged and the second zeolite is at least partially in H+ form. A process for producing a purified linear-alpha olefin (LAO) is also provided, which includes introducing a LAO product stream comprising an alkyl-butene fraction into a catalyst bed comprising a zeolite catalyst and in fluid connection with the LAO product stream to catalytically isomerize the alkyl-butene fraction into an alkyl-pentene fraction.

    Abstract: The disclosure provides a method of purifying a linear alpha olefin product, the method including feeding a linear alpha olefin feed stream comprising the linear alpha olefin product and at least one impurity into a distillation column, the distillation column having a plurality of stacked stages; withdrawing a side stream from at least one of said plurality of stacked stages; feeding the side stream into a reactor containing an isomerization catalyst to convert at least a portion of the at least one impurity from a first isomer to a second isomer, producing a reactor product stream having a reduced content of the first isomer; returning the reactor product stream to a stage of the distillation column; and withdrawing an overhead stream from the distillation column comprising the linear alpha olefin product and having a reduced content of the at least one impurity.

The method can include contacting a first stream containing 1-hexene and 2-ethyl-1-butene with an isomerization catalyst containing an comprising an alumina, silica-alumina, a zeolite, or an ion exchange resin, or any combinations thereof, under conditions sufficient to selectively isomerize at least a portion of 2-ethyl-1-butene into 3-methyl-2-pentene and form a second stream containing 1-hexene and 3-methyl-2-pentene, and separating the second stream into a third stream containing 1-hexene and a fourth stream containing 3-methyl-2-pentene.

    Abstract: A method for removal of an organic amine from a hydrocarbon stream includes mixing the hydrocarbon stream including the amine with an aqueous inorganic acid in a volumetric ratio of hydrocarbon stream: aqueous inorganic acid of greater than 1.5:1 to 5:1, phase separating a hydrocarbon phase and an aqueous phase, removing the hydrocarbon phase, mixing the aqueous phase with an aqueous alkaline solution, phase separating the aqueous phase and an organic phase, and removing the organic phase. The aqueous inorganic acid has a concentration of greater than or equal to 30 weight percent. The disclosed method results in improved phase separation time during an amine removal process.
