  • Patent number: 10890383
Abstract: Phase change material modules for use in a heat exchanger are described. The phase change material module comprises two or more set of a plurality of substantially aligned hollow structures arranged to form a porous structure. A phase change material capable of undergoing a phase change as a result of heat exchange between it and a fluid is housed within the hollow tubes. Also described is a phase change material module with hollow tubes having a cross-sectional area through the phase change material selected from elliptical, rectangular, stadium-shaped, teardrop-shaped, airfoil-shaped, rounded rectangle and ovoid. A heat exchanger comprising a plurality of the phase change material modules, a first fluid inlet and outlet, and a second fluid inlet and outlet, wherein the phase change material modules are repeated circulated from alignment with the first fluid inlet and the second fluid inlet is also described.

  • Patent number: 9476648
Abstract: Cooling systems and methods for cooling in a power plant using a phase change material. In one embodiment, a phase change material container includes at least one phase change material which may be in the form of a slurry; and at least one conduit for transporting the fluid through the phase change material when located in the phase change material container. The system may also comprise an air flow chamber; and a phase change material flow system including a pump for pumping phase change material from an outlet of phase change material container, to at least one phase change material spray nozzle. The phase change material flow system is configured to ensure that solidified phase change material is returned to the phase change material container.

  • Publication number: 20130118192
Abstract: A hybrid cooling system adapted to provide cooling to a thermal-electric power plant includes an air-cooled condenser (ACC) adapted to provide cooling water to the thermal-electric power plant and a vapor absorption/adsorption refrigerant system (VARS) adapted to provide cooled air to the ACC. The cooled air is used by the ACC to condense steam to produce the cooling water.

  • Patent number: 7140835
Abstract: A turbine nozzle includes a hollow vane joined to opposite inner and outer bands. The inner band includes a forward lip under the leading edge of the vane, an aft lip under the trailing edge of the vane, and a mounting flange spaced therebetween. An impingement bore extends obliquely and aft from the base of the mounting flange under a corner of the inner band toward the aft lip for impingement cooling thereof.

  • Patent number: 6969230
Abstract: A turbine airfoil includes sidewalls extending between leading and trailing edges, with an internal cooling circuit therein. A row of venturi slots commences inside the airfoil at the cooling circuit and terminates near the trailing edge. Each of the venturi slots includes an inlet, converging portion, throat, diverging portion, and outlet in serial flow communication from the cooling circuit. The converging portion is comparable in chordal length with the throat.

  • Patent number: 6884036
Abstract: A turbine nozzle includes outer and inner bands integrally joined to a vane having a three-pass serpentine flow circuit between opposite pressure and suction sidewalls. The outer band includes an inlet for channeling cooling air into a first channel of the circuit located behind a leading edge of the vane. A first outlet is disposed in the inner band at the bottom of the first channel where it joins the second channel of the circuit. A second outlet is also disposed in the inner band at the bottom of a third channel of the circuit which is disposed in flow communication with the second channel. The first channel behind the leading edge is smooth except for corresponding rows of first and second turbulators spaced laterally apart. The first turbulators bridge the pressure and suction sidewalls directly behind the leading edge, and the second turbulators are disposed behind the suction sidewall.
