  • Patent number: 8046470
Abstract: A mobile station that is fully engaged such that it cannot be connected to an incoming call without being disconnected from an existing call receives an incoming call notification. The incoming call notification may, for example, take the form of a short message system (SMS) message or a packet protocol message, such as a session initiation protocol (SIP) message. The incoming call notification may identify the calling party and may explain how to take the incoming call. If the user accepts the incoming call, the mobile station is disconnected from existing calls and connected to the incoming call.

  • Patent number: 8027456
Abstract: A carrier providing wireless services provides ringback media such as call tones via one or more call tones content providers. In one aspect, a service entity (e.g., SCP or application server) is provisioned with data unique to ringback media service subscribed to by the subscriber. The service entity provides routing instructions to a mobile switching center identifying a ringback media server (e.g., content provider platform) to render ringback media to the caller. In another aspect, a caller can exercise control over the play of ringback media, e.g., by inputting DTMF tones, which responsively cause a ringback media server to change the play of ringback media, e.g., stop it or play a different selection. In another aspect, when a subscriber initiates a call to called party that subscribes to a competitor carrier, the carrier limits exposure of the subscriber to the ringback media of the competitor carrier. In one possible configuration, the carrier inserts its own ringback media.

  • Patent number: 7995728
Abstract: After a call with a called party ends, a caller is provided with prompts or messages which allow the caller to control ringback media content which is to be rendered when the caller calls the called party in the future. For example, the caller is provided with prompts by which they can select ringback content from content they already have purchased and apply it to the called party number. Alternatively, the caller is linked to a content provider where they can purchase additional content and have it applied to the called party number. Thus, the caller is able to exert control over ringback media.

  • Patent number: 7995730
Abstract: A method and apparatus for masquerading the identity of a first communication device returning a missed call placed by a second communication device to a third communication device. The first communication device receives a missed call notification indicating the second communication device placed a first call to the third communication device. Thereafter, the first communication device initiates a second call to the second communication device and directs a network to deliver to the second communication device caller identification information that indicates the second call originates from the third communication device. Moreover, the first communication device may include a missed call log that includes missed call notifications for missed calls placed directly to the first communication device as well as missed call notifications for missed calls originally placed to another communication device. The first communication device can present to a user missed call notifications stored in the missed call log.

  • Patent number: 7982583
Abstract: Users of the system are each provided with an indicator module capable of presenting a display. An authorization module keeps track of which users are authorized to access a facility, such as a secured area or a parking facility. The authorization module sends messages, such as SMS messages, to the authorized indicator modules directing them to present a common valid display. The common valid display changes repeatedly over time, but, at any one time, the modules of authorized users all present the same display. A user may be granted or denied access based on whether the display on his module is the same as that of known authorized modules.

  • Patent number: 7894834
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for integrating a plurality of providers of media content such as call tones, games, ringers, etc. with a wireless service provider network. The wireless service provider network includes a media service platform, a profile database and a media database. The media content providers provide an interactive facility, e.g., Web interface, allowing a user to purchase content. A notification message is sent to the user which is triggered in response to purchase of content. The notification message includes a network address (e.g., URL) of the media service platform. The media service platform checks to see if the purchased content is stored in the media database, and if not, it pulls it over from the content provider. The profile database is updated regarding the purchased content in response to information from the user.

  • Patent number: 7869792
Abstract: A parent mobile station is provided that enables real-time parental control over communications with an associated child mobile station. The parent mobile station receives notification of attempted inbound and outbound calls with third parties to and from the child mobile station, or of requests from the child mobile station to retrieve content from a content provider. In response to the notifications, the parent mobile station determines whether or not to permit the inbound and outbound calls or the retrieval of content. If permitted, communications with the child mobile station are routed through the parent mobile station, which itself communicates over a wireless telecommunications network. If not permitted, the parent mobile station does not relay such communications.

  • Patent number: 7596219
Abstract: A method for setting up a call to a subscriber station. The method comprises, at a first telecommunications platform, receiving a first request to set up a call to a subscriber station. The first request is processed at a second telecommunications platform. The second platform provides a second request to set up the call to the subscriber station, where the second request includes a non-loop parameter. The second request is received at the first platform and the first platform responsively sends a service request including the non-loop parameter to a third telecommunications platform. The third platform detects the non-loop parameter and, in response to at least the non-loop parameter, directs the first platform to set up the call to the subscriber station.

  • Patent number: 7545762
Abstract: In a packet-switched network, a subscribing application subscribes to a network presence server to receive selected network presence information. The network presence server obtains the selected network presence information, at least in part, from status messages that a network access server, such as a packet data serving node (PDSN), sends, for example, to an accounting server. The network presence server then provides the selected network presence information to the subscribing application. The selected network presence information may include an identification of a particular customer that has just initiated or terminated a data session and the network address the particular customer is or was using.

  • Patent number: 7444139
Abstract: A method and system for reducing latency in initiation of a real-time data session between wireless communication stations. In order to initiate a session with one or more target parties, an originating station will send a voice call origination message to a network switch, providing in the origination message (i) a session-initiation feature code and (ii) a target code indicative of the one or more target parties. The switch will then detect the session-initiation feature code as an intelligent-network trigger and responsively signal to a service controller, which will in turn signal to a communication server. The communication server will then invite the originating station and each of the one or more target parties to participate in the session, setting up a conference leg with each and bridging the legs together to allow the session to proceed.

  • Patent number: 7437162
Abstract: A method and system for dynamically delivering a voice call to a client station depending on whether the client station is currently in a mode in which it can receive data. A switch may receive a request to connect a voice call to a client station that the switch serves, and a determination may responsively be made as to whether the client station is in a mode in which it can receive data communications. If the determination is that it is not in the mode, then the switch may deliver the voice call to the client station by normal routing mechanics. On the other hand, if the determination is that it is in the mode, then the switch may re-direct the call to a circuit/packet gateway that may then extend the call as a voice-over-packet session to the client station.

  • Patent number: 7272220
Abstract: Locating a lost or misplaced mobile station. A user may dial a designated number, enter the phone number of the misplaced or lost mobile, and the network responsively plays a message to the user informing the user of the geographic location of the cell and sector, typically including city and state information, as well as boundary information of the sector, such as street boundaries. In an alternative embodiment, a user may input the MIN of the lost mobile to a web-based form, and thereby retrieve a map of the cell-sector location of the MS. A service node (SN) is configured to receive a request from a user trying to locate a mobile device. The SN either prompts the user to provide the phone number of the mobile device via an IVRU or through a web-based form sent to a web server connected to the SN. The SN then initiates a call to the mobile device. The standard network processing of such a call includes sending a facilities available (FAVAIL) message to the service control point (SCP).
