  • Publication number: 20220103976
Abstract: During a positioning session between a user equipment (UE) and a location server, the location server may send the base station a request to suspend the Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection with the UE. For example, the location server may send a request to the base station recommending suspension of the connection or may provide an indication of the amount of time during which position related messages between the UE and the location server are not expected. The base station may determine whether to suspend the connection with the UE, thereby placing the UE in an inactive state based on the information provided. The base station may further determine whether to suspend the connection based on data activity of the UE. While in an inactive state, the UE and base station store UE connection context, which may be used to quickly resume the connection.

  • Publication number: 20220060853
Abstract: During a positioning session, a user equipment (UE) is provided with an early uplink grant to respond to a request for location service information from a location server. The location service information, for example, may be a request for positioning capabilities, a request for positioning measurements or a position estimate, and may be a request for a single, periodic or triggered location information. The early uplink grant may be requested by the UE prior to needing the uplink grant, e.g., before the positioning measurements have been completed. The location server may instigate the early uplink grant, e.g., at or near the same time that the location server sends the request for information to the UE. The early uplink grant may be used, e.g., during high priority or emergency related positioning sessions, in order to reduce delay in the UE providing a response to the request for location information.

  • Patent number: 11259146
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) has dual connectivity to a first Radio Access Technology (RAT) and a second RAT, such as Long Term Evolution (LTE) and New Radio (NR). The UE receives a request for location information for the first and second RATs, e.g., after transmitting capability information indicating dual connectivity. The UE obtains location information for the first and second RATs and transmits the location information to a location server. The location information, for example, may be location measurements obtained for the first and second RATs, a location estimate, or both. The request for location information may be received using the first RAT and the location information may be transmitted using the second RAT. The request for location information may include a first request for the first RAT, and a second request for the second RAT received after location information for the first RAT is obtained.

  • Publication number: 20210352610
Abstract: Techniques are provided for transmitting Positioning Reference Signals (PRSs) in cells supporting two different Radio Access Technologies (RATs), where the two RATs (e.g. 4G LTE and 5G NR) employ dynamic spectrum sharing. To avoid interference between the PRSs and between the two RATs, the PRSs may be time aligned to the same set of PRS positioning occasions, and may be assigned orthogonal characteristics such as different muting patterns, orthogonal code sequences, different frequency shifts or different frequency hopping. UEs supporting both RATs may be enabled to measure PRSs for both RATs. UEs supporting only one RAT (e.g. 4G LTE) may be enabled to measure PRSs for just this RAT. A location server such as an LMF, E-SMLC or SLP may provide assistance data to UEs, and request measurements from UEs, for PRSs in one or both RATs.

  • Patent number: 11087778
Abstract: A method of communication includes determining, at a mobile device, a speech quality metric for an incoming speech signal associated with a voice call. The speech quality metric is based on an environment of the mobile device. The method also includes converting incoming speech associated with the incoming speech signal to text in response to a determination that the speech quality metric fails to satisfy a speech quality metric threshold. The method further includes displaying the text at a display screen of the mobile device during the voice call.

  • Publication number: 20210091851
Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for determining a distance (or range) between a first wireless entity and a second wireless entity. In an aspect, the first wireless entity transmits a first positioning reference signaling (PRS) signal to the second wireless entity at a first time, where the first PRS signal is received by the second wireless entity at a second time, and receives a second PRS signal from the second wireless entity at a third time, where the second PRS signal is transmitted by the second wireless entity at a fourth time. The first wireless entity enables the distance to be determined by a location computing entity, for example, by a location server, based on the first, second, third, and fourth times. The first wireless entity may be a mobile device or a base station and the second wireless entity may be the other of the mobile device or base station.

  • Publication number: 20210067703
Abstract: A camera image sensor captures imaging pixel data and focus pixel data. The camera determines an imaging analog gain based on the imaging pixel data, and determines a focus analog gain based on the focus pixel data. When capturing the one or more subsequent frames, the image sensor applies the imaging analog gain to the imaging pixels and applies the focus analog gain to the focus pixels. Optionally, applying the focus analog gain to the focus pixels brings an average focus pixel luminance within a range, or brings a phase disparity confidence above a threshold.

  • Publication number: 20210048502
Abstract: The angle of departure (AOD) of directed beams, e.g., beamformed beams, transmitted by one or more base stations, such as a gNB, and the angle of arrival (AOA) of the directed beams received by a UE may be used to improve positioning accuracy by identifying Line Of Sight (LOS) beams and multi-path beams. The differential AOA (DAOA) of a directed beam pair may compared to the differential AOD (DAOD) of the directed beam pair. Matching DAOA and DAOD may be used as an indication that the directed beams in the beam pair are LOS with the UE, whereas a mis-match indicates one or both of the directed beams are multi-path. The location of the UE may be estimated using the measurement information, e.g., AOA, RTT, RSTD, etc., obtained from LOS directed beams.

  • Patent number: 10911998
Abstract: Mobile communication devices may use too much power and/or take too much time when camping on a particular mobile communication network. An apparatus may implement functions that may decrease power usage and/or decrease time usage. The apparatus may be a UE configured to measure energy levels for each frequency channel of a set of frequency channels in a frequency band to determine measured energy levels. The apparatus may also be configured to determining whether a first cell that operates using a first RAT is detected on a frequency channel of the set of frequency channels based on the measured energy levels. Additionally, the apparatus may be configured to search for a second cell that operates using a second RAT, when no cell for the first RAT is detected on the set of frequency channels, wherein the UE searches for the second cell using the measured energy levels.

  • Patent number: 10872261
Abstract: Some dynamic pixel binning methods may involve identifying ROI optical sensor data corresponding to optical sensor pixels in a region of interest (ROI). Some such methods also may involve identifying non-ROI optical sensor data corresponding to optical sensor pixels outside the region of interest and determining a first binning factor for the non-ROI optical sensor data. The first binning factor may be based on a number of pixels in the region of interest and a target output data rate. Some such methods also may involve applying the first binning factor to the non-ROI optical sensor data and outputting optical sensor data, including the binned non-ROI optical sensor data, at the target output data rate.
