Abstract: Methods and systems are provided herein for generating notifications based on the interests of guests. Guests may request notifications on their host's television, and the system will generate notifications based on the guest's interests and preferences as stored in the guest's user profile. In doing so, the guest will be notified of events of interest, such as when a favorite sports team scores a point or when an important scene in a favorite movie is playing. The system monitors the network of the apartment or house and detects when a guest device is accessing the network. The system then accesses the guest's interests and identifies a set of programs based on these interests. The system then monitors these programs and generates notifications on the display device when an event of interest has occurred in one of the identified programs.

The system receives a user input to interrupt the display of the portion of the media asset. Based on receiving the user input, the system retrieves a media clip library associated with user and updates the media clip library to include the portion of the media asset.

Abstract: A system for altering the recording time and or duration of a video program is provided via data sent to a recorder. The scheduled time for recording one or more programs then may be altered or overridden by the data sent to the recorder. For example, the data may be sent by a service provider or broadcaster of video programs. Alternatively, certain phrases relating to a change in a program's duration in an audio channel or closed caption channel are recognized or sensed to update or alter the recording time of the recorder. The system may include a provision to record one or more video programs with reduced commercial advertisements, or a recording with substantially commercial advertisements.
