  • Publication number: 20070036487
Abstract: A sealed optical fiber connector assembly includes a connector housing that is uniquely configured to cooperate with a cable crimp tail and one or more terminal fiber optic connectors. The connector housing has a first opening for securely retaining the terminal fiber optic connectors. An interior passage connects the first opening to a second opening at the housing's other end. The interior passage allows the crimp tail to pass through the housing. The second opening forms a shoulder so that the crimp tail, after being pushed through the first opening and passage, can be rotated and seated against the shoulder. A cable seal securely holds the crimp tail against the shoulder. This provides a sealed and substantially stronger cable attachment. The connector housing is part of removable optical connector that provides environmental sealing when mated to a corresponding adapter.

  • Publication number: 20060263011
Abstract: A hybrid optical/electrical connector and mated adapter for terminating at least one hybrid optical/electrical cable containing an optical fiber and a conductor. The connector includes a crimp body having an elongated conductive insert with an interior passage for receiving the optical fiber and a non-conductive shell covering the insert. The insert has a contact portion exposed through the shell and an end extending beyond the shell for electrical engagement with the hybrid cable conductor. The adapter includes a non-conductive housing with a plug connector receiving channel. Within the plug receiving channel, a conductor extends longitudinally. The conductor has a contact point within the channel in alignment with the exposed contact portion of the insert so that when the connector is inserted within the receiving channel, the exposed contact portion of the insert and the conductor contact point of the adapter are in electrical engagement with one another.

  • Patent number: 7094091
Abstract: An adapter is mountable to a bulkhead, panel, circuit box, circuit board or other substrate, and receives a fiber optic connector. The adapter can be swiveled or rotated relative to the bulkhead, panel, circuit box, circuit board or other substrate, thereby providing for enhanced cable management. The adapter may include a gasket that reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI).

  • Patent number: 7018108
Abstract: A fiber optic connector assembly includes an outer connector housing defining an optic axis in a through passage. A first key is disposed in the passage at a given position angularly about the axis. An inner optical fiber plug terminates an optical fiber and is disposed in the passage and includes a second key movably positionable about the periphery of the plug to different selected positions of rotational adjustment for the plug. The second key is fixable at any selected position on the plug and is lockable with the first key on the housing to fix the angular position of the plug relative to the housing and, thereby, fix the rotational position of the optical fiber angularly of the optic axis.

  • Publication number: 20060013538
Abstract: A ferrule for connecting a optical fiber to a mating optical fiber or an item of network gear includes a guide hole having a consistent first dimension in a first region and a larger dimension in a second region. A guide or alignment pin inserted through the guide hole forms a locational or sliding fit with the guide hole in the first region and a loose fit in the second region, allowing the ferrule to rock through the angle formed by the dimension of the second region. Rocking the ferrule through this angle closes the lossy air gap formed by end-face tilt resulting from imperfect polishing of the face of the ferrule and decreases insertion loss.

  • Patent number: 6981803
Abstract: A fiber optic connector module is provided for assembly at a rear face of a fiber optic connector assembly. The module includes a ferrule terminated to at least one optical fiber. A housing is spaced behind the ferrule and includes a rear end exposed at said rear face of the connector assembly. An extender member is removably attached to the housing at the rear end thereof and extends away from the rear face of the connector assembly for facilitating manipulation of the connector module.

  • Patent number: 6913392
Abstract: A fiber optic connector assembly includes an outer connector housing defining an optic axis. An inner optical fiber plug is mounted in the housing for limited axial movement therein and for rotational movement angularly of the axis. An indexing or locking mechanism is provided between the plug and the housing to hold the plug in selected rotational positions of adjustment angular of the optic axis. Axial movement of the plug within and relative to the housing is effective to disengage the lock or indexing mechanism and allow rotation of the plug. A retainer is selectively movable into engagement with the plug to prevent axial movement of the plug and, thereby, prevent disengagement of the lock or indexing mechanism, thereby fixing the rotational position of the adjustment of the plug.
