  • Patent number: 10246971
Abstract: A valve assembly for a plug to close off a zone in the well for further treatment above the plug features a valve member initially pinned in an open position where flow up to a predetermined level can move through without dislodging the valve plug to move to its associated seat. If the perforating gun misfires a replacement gun can be run in with flow as the plug is still retained in the position for flow through the plug. On the other hand flow around the plug above a predetermined level will shear retainers for the plug and let the plug land on its seat closing flow in a downhole direction for treatment.

  • Publication number: 20180016864
Abstract: A tapered mandrel is advanced into a spirally cut sleeve having a corresponding taper to the mandrel. The outer surface of the sleeve conforms to the surrounding borehole and features an exterior recess in which a sealing element is mounted. The sleeve diameter expands as the tapered mandrel is axially advanced. Axial cuts in the spiral sleeve further reduce the force needed for setting. A leading nose is provided for the uphole end of the sealing element to allow high treatment flow rate while the sealing element is protected from the erosive effects of high velocities.

  • Publication number: 20160290093
Abstract: A compression set sealing element preferably 85A-95A TDI-Ester Polyurethane is compressed axially and retained against extrusion by CEM anti-extrusion rings. The compressed state of the sealing element is locked in by a degradable lock ring assembly. The mandrel is secured to an upper end of a slip cone and a breakable slip ring is secured by a wireline setting tool until the set position is reached. The slip ring breaks into segments that are pulled up the slip cone as the setting tool pushes on a sleeve to axially compress the sealing element and lock in the set. The sealing element is retained against extrusion by CEM anti-extrusion rings. When the setting tool is removed a ball seat is exposed for delivery of a ball to build pressure into the formation for fracturing. The entirety of the plug then disintegrates from well fluid exposure.
