    Abstract: A surgical implant (10) has an areal base structure (12) and at least one projection (14) which is absorbable or partially absorbable and which is designed to take up at least half the implant's own weight of body fluids. In a preferred embodiment, the projection (14) has an attachment area (16) which is sited on the base structure (12) and which is adjoined by a cylindrical or frustoconical middle part (17), pointing away from the base structure (12), followed by a widening (18) arranged at the end remote from the base structure (12).
