  • Publication number: 20110079346
Abstract: A water based adhesive or bonding agent, which exhibits highly favorable bonding traits, in conjunction with superior material handling aspects. Additionally, the water based adhesive agent endeavors to find use where the handling of solvent based adhesives becomes a hazard. Further, a method for preparation of the water based adhesive agent and a method for usage of the water based bonding system within the shoe manufacturing industry.

  • Publication number: 20060233959
Abstract: The method of preparing a sole assembly intended to be attached to a shoe upper and/or midsole. A coat of primer is applied to a molded shoe sole and then conditioned. A film adhesive is pressed on to the primer coated surface of the sole under pressure. The primer may be dried before applying the adhesive film. The sole is conditioned at 40-90° C. for approximately 30-60 seconds and heat pressed at 40-90° C. at 40-70 psi for 5-30 seconds.

  • Publication number: 20050069716
Abstract: A two-layered adhesive film for bonding non-polar material such as Styrene-butadiene-rubber (SBR), natural rubber or ethylene copolymers to polar materials such as PVC, polyurethane, polyamide or polyester. The film comprises a thermoplastic polyurethane based adhesive layer adapted to bond to the polar material; and an ethylene copolymer based adhesive layer adapted to bond to the non-polar material. The two adhesive layers are interfacially bonded by coextrusion.

  • Publication number: 20040168348
Abstract: A footwear construction including an upper to which a sole is to be attached. The upper has a peripheral edge, having an inner surface and an outer surface. A heat activatable adhesive impregnated substrate strip stitched to the outer surface of the peripheral edge whereby when the adhesive is activated a sole can be bonded thereto. A method for adhering an upper to a sole including applying a heat activatable adhesive to a substrate, attaching at least a portion of the upper and activating the adhesive.

  • Patent number: 6467116
Abstract: A laminated waterproof footwear assembly. Where the footwear components are stitched together a gel-like sealant is placed on at least one surface of the footwear components to be joined together. A needle carrying a thread passes through the footwear components carrying the gel with it. The gel dams the hole and forms a waterproof seal.

  • Patent number: 5820719
Abstract: A sole assembly is made by placing a release film, having a heat activatable adhesive on one side, in a mold and forming a sole in the mold. The adhesive forms an integral part of the completed sole which allows handling of the molded sole without displacing the adhesive or the release film. The molded sole is used by removing the release film, activating the adhesive and bonding the sole to an upper.

  • Patent number: 5732429
Abstract: Method for waterproofing a welted footwear construction. The footwear includes an insole rib joined to an insole. The method includes applying a sealant gel to the outer surface of the insole rib and attaching a welt and an upper to the rib by stitching with a needle. The needle carries the sealing gel into and through the needle holes formed thereby forming a water impermeable seal between the welt, the upper and the rib.
