    Abstract: Disclosed is a method for screening patients to determine whether or not SSRI therapy is likely to alleviate symptoms of depression in those patients. The method provides a polymorphism at position ?1019 of the 5-HT1A gene that is predictive of likelihood of improvement of symptoms and a polymorphism at position 102 of the 5-HT2A gene that is predictive of likelihood of unwanted side effects related to SSRI therapy administered to a patient.
