  • Patent number: 5928467
Abstract: Magnetic forces are applied to a side of a spacer frame mounted on a glass sheet to maintain the side of the spacer frame in alignment i.e. the plane containing base of the spacer frame perpendicular to the plane containing the surface of the glass to which the spacer frame is adhered. Thereafter a glass sheet is mounted on the other surface of the spacer frame. The sheets are adhered to the spacer frame by a sealant layer. After the sheets are assembled, the sheets are urged toward one another to flow the sealant to seal the space between the sheets.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 24, 1997
Date of Patent: July 27, 1999
    Assignee: PPG Industries Ohio, Inc.
Inventors: Raymond G. Gallagher, Barent A. Rosskamp, Paul J. Kovacik, Albert E. Thompson, Jr.

  • Patent number: 4193236
Abstract: Adhesive cleats having (1) adhesion in shear and (2) shear resistance of greater than about 40 pounds per square inch (2.80 kilograms per square centimeter) adhere a desiccative spacer to adjacent glass sheets to prevent spacer sag and/or spacer bow. A moisture-impervious sealant seals the airspace between the glass sheets to provide a multiple glazed unit.

Date of Patent: March 18, 1980
    Assignee: PPG Industries, Inc.
Inventors: Renato J. Mazzoni, George R. Mistrick, Barent A. Rosskamp
