Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring blood products using portable storage units (“PSUs”) are disclosed. A PSU can be configured to communicate with a blood product management server for monitoring blood products. In many embodiments, a PSU can include a cooling mechanism to control the internal temperature of the PSU, a RFID reader configured to scan at least one RFID tag associated with at least one blood product, a processor, and a memory containing a PSU application, wherein the PSU application configures the processor to: determine a temperature profile for the at least one blood product, generate health status information for the at least one blood product based upon the blood product's temperature profile, generate a user interface that includes information regarding the at least one blood product's health status information, and transmit the at least one blood product's health status information to the blood product management server.

Abstract: Systems, devices and methods for analyzing the movement, orientation, and location of patients and other users within a hospital, nursing home, or other setting where patient monitoring is desired. One or more sensors or markers are positioned on the body of the user, and a plurality of readers or transceivers in known relative location within the patient care environment detect or communicate with the sensors or markers to identify user location. Location sensing techniques include multi-angulation, multi-lateration, scene analysis (such as visual image analysis), or proximity. Analysis techniques used include time-of-flight analysis, signal strength analysis, image, and video analysis.

Abstract: Methods, systems and devices for monitoring patient orientation, direction, altitude and location to determine the need for turns as well as to detect impending or actual bed exits or falls. A patient-worn sensor communicates with at least one host server through a mesh network of relay antennae to provide data representative of various patient characteristics. The sensor comprises one or more of an accelerometer, a magnetometer and an altimeter, along with optional other sensors. Various user interfaces are provided for managing patient care using the information developed by algorithms processed at the server based on data received from the patient sensors.

Abstract: A system for monitoring medical conditions including pressure ulcers, pressure-induced ischemia and related medical conditions comprises at least one sensor adapted to detect one or more patient characteristic including at least position, orientation, temperature, acceleration, moisture, resistance, stress, heart rate, respiration rate, and blood oxygenation, a host for processing the data received from the sensors together with historical patient data to develop an assessment of patient condition and suggested course of treatment. In some embodiments, the system can further include a support surface having one or more sensors incorporated therein either in addition to sensors affixed to the patient or as an alternative thereof. The support surface is, in some embodiments, capable of responding to commands from the host for assisting in implementing a course of action for patient treatment.
