  • Patent number: 10777782
Abstract: The invention relates to devices incorporating thin, lightweight electrochemical cells and their method of manufacture, whereby a thin flexible pouch-type cell (1) comprises at least one pair of overlying electrode layers separated from one another by an intermediate electrolyte layer (13), the cell exterior being defined by first and second laminated sheets (3, 9) sealed together, wherein each laminated sheet (3, 9) has an outermost layer (3a, 9a) forming a respective external face of the cell (1) and a coextensive, innermost, conductive layer (3b, 9b) that acts as a current collector layer (3b, 9b) and which supports an electrode layer (5, 11), although the conductive layer may also itself act as the active electrode layer.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 10060711
Abstract: A thermally emissive apparatus (2) having an electro-thermal heating element (6) comprising a layer (8) of a first material having a first resistivity and a plurality of discrete regions (10) of a second material having a second resistivity substantially lower than that of the first material in electrical contact with the first material. The plurality of regions (10) of second material are arranged spatially so as to impart a predetermined effective sheet resistivity to the first layer (8). A plurality of heating elements may be used having a common first layer (30) of first material, wherein the spatial arrangement of the regions (10) of second material within a first heating element are optionally different to that within a second heating element. In this configuration the first and second heating elements may emit infrared radiation (14) having different intensities. The apparatus (2) finds applications as a thermal target and as an electro-thermal ice protection device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 26, 2009
Date of Patent: August 28, 2018
    Assignee: QINETIQ LIMITED

  • Publication number: 20080023292
Abstract: A clutch disc assembly for a friction torque device has a clutch damper assembly which includes a hub defining an axis of rotation and a concentric steel disc. The damper assembly includes a plurality of cushion elements fixed to the steel disc. First and second friction rings are disposed on opposite sides of the cushion elements and are rotatively fixed to the steel disc. First and second friction discs have an equal number of keyhole slots defining an equal number of arms. A friction pad is fixed to each arm, with friction pads on the first friction disc being in substantial alignment with the friction pads on the second friction disc.

  • Patent number: 5855292
Abstract: A fluid container and capsule therefor. The capsule comprises upper and lower parts, at least one of which has a dished formation and both of which have a peripheral rim, the rims being secured together so that the upper and lower parts are at least partially in register with one another to provide at least one vented chamber extending into the dished formation. The capsule includes a vent hole or like structure in at least one of the parts to communicate between the interior of the chamber and the exterior thereof. The lower part has its exterior so formed as to enable it to be held in stable engagement with a surface but so that a fluid may pass freely between those parts of the exterior of the lower part and the surface that are not in intimate engagement.
