    Abstract: A surgical scrub sink includes a faucet mounted over a tub with an electronically operated on/off mechanism for controlling the flow of water from the faucet into the tub. A short focus sensor is mounted at the tub and directs a beam toward the front of the tub at the height of the user's legs for detecting the presence and absence of a user in the immediate vicinity of the tub. The sensor is operatively connected to the on/off mechanism so as to turn on the faucet when the presence of the user is detected and turn off the faucet when the absence of a user is detected.
