Patent number: 7324637Abstract: A telecommunication system includes telecommunication resources, points, and a connection manager. The connection manager is configured to establish connections between the telecommunications resources and the points in response to a request from an application. The connection manager uses routing tables to select the most efficient route from the available routes between a telecommunications resource and a point. The routing tables establish the connection by sending a request to allocate a telecommunications resource to a session manager.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2006Date of Patent: January 29, 2008Assignee: Securus Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Barry D. Brown, John S. Hogg

Patent number: 6665376Abstract: A system for controlling and monitoring the recording of telephone calls in institutions such as jails and correctional facilities, and for obtaining consent to such recording and monitoring. Calls are recorded automatically in response to the occurrence of specific triggering events, as pre-defined under software control by a system administrator. Triggering events may include, for example, use of a specific line, attempts to use particular features (such as three-way calling), attempts to dial particular telephone numbers, or use by a particular person. Consent to recording or monitoring is obtained from either the calling or called party, or both, in a language selected for such party. Evidence of which prompts were played to request consent, the language of such prompts, and whether consent was given is stored in a computer readable record. Recorded calls are digitized and stored in standard MS-DOS files on either a local computer system or a remote computer across a network.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1998Date of Patent: December 16, 2003Assignee: T-Netix, Inc.Inventor: Barry D. Patent number: 6560325Abstract: A telecommunication system includes a plurality of applications, a plurality of telecommunication resources, and a telecommunication services kernel. At least one telecommunication resource is capable of generating an event and each application is capable of responding to an event. The telecommunication services kernel couples a requested application triggered by the event with telecommunication resource required by the application. The telecommunication service kernel also de-couples the requested application and the required telecommunication resource in response to the requested application completing execution. The required telecommunication resource is now available to other applications. A method for allocating a telecommunication resource to an application in a telecommunications system is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2002Date of Patent: May 6, 2003Assignee: T-Netix, Inc.Inventors: Barry D. Patent number: 5535261Abstract: A system for controlling and monitoring the recording of telephone calls in institutions such as jails and correctional facilities. Recorded calls are digitized and stored in standard MS-DOS files on either a local computer system or a remote computer across a network. Stored digitized recordings may be selected for playback under software control by a system administrator. The system of the present invention allows control of recordings from within a conventional telephone system. The integrated nature of the system provides cost savings and improved flexibility.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1993Date of Patent: July 9, 1996Assignee: Gateway Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Barry D. Patent number: 5485507Abstract: A commissary system for receiving and processing commissary orders using a premise-based telephone system of an institution such as a jail or correctional facility without accessing a PSTN. User-provided identifier information and item selection information is entered into the commissary system through selected telephones of the premise-based telephone system. User status and inventory information stored in a memory device coupled to a processor are compared with the user provided identifier and item selection information by the processor, according to selected authorization criteria. These criteria may include sufficiency of the user's account balance, item availability, and scope of the user's commissary privileges. The processor generates transaction records for user identified items that meet the authorization criteria, automatically adjusts inventory and user status information, and stores the records in a file where they may be downloaded for record keeping purposes.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1994Date of Patent: January 16, 1996Assignee: Gateway Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Barry D. Patent number: 5459769Abstract: In a CT imaging system a baseline image is acquired prior to the injection of a contrast agent into the subject and a series of monitoring images are acquired which enable the affects of the contrast agent to be observed in real time. Regions in the baseline image may be selected with a cursor and the contrast enhancement amounts in these regions are calculated and displayed in both graphic and numerical form. By observing the changes that occur in the displayed information, the operator can determine the moment to begin the image scan for optimal image contrast.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1994Date of Patent: October 17, 1995Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: Barry D. Patent number: 5210789Abstract: Disclosed is a technique for presenting information to a telephone operator to enhance the efficient completion of telephone calls. Numerous data bases are generated to make available information concerning any type of telephone call with which the operator might be requested to assist or complete. The operator workstation is program controlled to access the various data bases and present information particular to that type of telephone call being serviced. Interaction between the operator and the workstation based on visual menus allows the operator to initiate access to the data bases for other or more detailed information which is displayed on menus and overlay menus.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1991Date of Patent: May 11, 1993Assignee: International Telecharge, Inc.Inventors: Stanley E. Patent number: 4635362Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for cutting a sheet using a hand-held knife. The apparatus includes a cutting table and a clamp having a gripping edge for holding the sheet against the cutting table. The clamp provides freely accessible lateral guides for locating the cutting blade close to the sheet-gripping edge and for orienting the cutting blade and the axis of the knife handle in a near-vertical plane.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1985Date of Patent: January 13, 1987Inventor: Barry D. Patent number: 4578136Abstract: Each disclosed wire marker or other adhesive product includes a pressure-sensitive adhesive portion or applique that has a readily peelable bond to the release surface of a carrier sheet. A tab extends from an extremity of the applique, to be torn away when the applique is adhered to a receiving surface, due to a weakening formation between the tab and the applique. Wire markers have an elongated wire-marking portions divided into segments by connections that are progressively weaker in the order of their distance from the tab. Where made by screen printing, the same operation that defines the outlines of the adhesive products also produces the weakening formations.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1984Date of Patent: March 25, 1986Assignee: The Datak CorporationInventor: Barry D.
