  • Patent number: 4783314
Abstract: A method to determine performance of a treating agent (CA) added to a system body of liquid to enhance performance of the liquid body is determined by employing an inert fluorescent tracer (T) in a known T:CA dosage proportion, prepared on the basis of a concentration of CA (e.g. ppm) proposed for optimum performance in the liquid body. The system liquid is sampled and, on the basis of fluorescent emission, the sampled indicator is compared to a standard ppm concentration of T to determine the concentration and efficacy of CA and the physical characteristics and operating parameters of the liquid body.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 26, 1987
Date of Patent: November 8, 1988
    Assignee: Nalco Chemical Company
Inventors: John E. Hoots, Barry E. Hunt
  • Patent number: 4758312
Abstract: The invention comprises a method for determining the corrosion rate of metals in contact with a liquid system which is capable of causing corrosion of such metals which comprises adding to the liquid system an electrochemically active compound having a reduction potential more positive than the metal in contact with the liquid system and then monitoring the system thus treated with the electrochemically active compound to determine its rate of reduction which is proportional to the corrosion rate of the metal.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 5, 1987
Date of Patent: July 19, 1988
    Assignee: Nalco Chemical Company
Inventors: Barry E. Hunt, Harvey M. Herro, Kyu-Hwa Lee, Morris Mindick
