Patent number: 9262190Abstract: The disclosed embodiments illustrate methods and systems for managing virtual machines in a distributed computing environment. The method includes determining an estimated execution time for each job type in one or more jobs received from users and subscribing to virtual machines from the distributed computing environment to execute jobs of each type. The virtual machines are subscribed based on service level agreement (SLA) terms, quality of service (QoS) metrics, and/or the estimated execution time. Further, an actual job execution time for each job executed on an associated subscribed virtual machine is monitored. Thereafter, one or more under-performing virtual machines are identified based on the actual execution time, the estimated execution time, and a tolerance value for each type of job. The one or more under-performing virtual machines are released, while a new set of virtual machines are re-subscribed, such that the SLA terms and the QoS metrics are met.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2013Date of Patent: February 16, 2016Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Barry G Gombert, Lee C Moore, Francisco M Valeriano

Publication number: 20130046638Abstract: As set forth herein, computer-implemented methods and systems facilitate providing an approach for using defined patterns of variable-data campaigns to enable a marketing service provider to express a non-expert user's desired campaign intent, using natural language and campaign intent terms, as well as to accurately capture the non-expert user's intent by communicating using non-technical campaign terminology. Communication of semantically robust campaign intent to variable-data campaign graphic designers and developers is facilitated by the described systems and methods, as is automated creation of a variable-data logic (plan) file based on semantic campaign intent. The described systems and methods facilitate the creation of variable data publishing (VDP) marketing campaigns by the non-expert, as well as communication and collaboration with the rest of a VDP design team.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 17, 2011Publication date: February 21, 2013Applicant: XEROX CORPORATIONInventors: Michael David Shepherd, Dale Ellen Gaucas, Kirk J. Patent number: 8240479Abstract: Systems and methods are described that facilitate generating a changing visual effect during opening and closing of a package for a product. The package includes first and second portions, each having thereon an polarized interference region with non-parallel planes of polarization. All or part of the second package portion is transparent to one polarization, permitting the polarized interference region on the first package portion to interact with a polarized interference region on the second package portion. The package portions are mated together (e.g., in a tube and sleeve arrangement or the like), such that the polarized regions are aligned and overlap each other when the package is closed, thereby permitting less light through due to the two overlapping planes of polarization. As the package is opened (or closed), the polarized regions move or slide past each other, creating the visual effect by changing the size and shape of the overlapping polarized region.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2010Date of Patent: August 14, 2012Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Robert P. Loce, Barry G. Gombert

Patent number: 8240475Abstract: Systems and methods are described that facilitate generating a color interference effect during opening and closing of a package for a product. The package includes first and second portions, each having printed thereon a color interference pattern. All or part of the second package portion is transparent, permitting the color interference pattern on the first package portion to be seen through the second package portion. The package portions are mated together (e.g., in a tube and sleeve arrangement or the like), such that the color interference patterns are aligned and overlap each other completely when the package is closed. As the package is opened (or closed), the interference patterns move or slide past each other, creating the visible color interference effect.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2010Date of Patent: August 14, 2012Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Robert P. Patent number: 8169662Abstract: There is disclosed a printing system for processing an electronic document with an original stream having at least two printing related instructions. Responsive to reading the at least two printing related instructions with a controller; the original stream is split into two or more streams. A printer produces (1) one or more sets of prints from one or more of the two or more streams for storage in one or more inserters, and (2) a final set of prints from another one of the two or more streams, the final set of prints corresponding to a hardcopy stream with at least one gap. The one or more sets of prints are automatically stored in the one or more inserters and, pursuant to printing the final set of prints; the one or more inserters are used to insert at least one print from the one or more sets of prints into the at least one gap of the hardcopy stream.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2008Date of Patent: May 1, 2012Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Jean-Pierre R. Patent number: 8095376Abstract: A automated method, system and computer program for ordering print products by electronic mail. An e-mail request for business cards or other print products, such as postcards or calendars, is generated by a user of an e-mail system and sent to a management system including a management program which, in response, causes the system to selectively retrieve additional information associated with the e-mail request from one or more databases. The management system then prepares the business card order, or other print product order, using the retrieved information. The databases may be internet accessible directory services or other types of databases which the management system can look up using the originating e-mail address contained in the e-mail request in order to retrieve the additional information. The print product order can be prepared by importing the additional information, such as print product, shipping, billing and/or approval information, into one or more templates.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2006Date of Patent: January 10, 2012Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Barry G. Patent number: 7555530Abstract: Systems and methods provide documents based on collected document identifiers. A document production center receives a document identifier along with delivery address information, identifies a digital document based on the document identifier, makes an copy or prints a hard copy of the document, and delivers the copied or printed document to a delivery address based on the delivery address information.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2003Date of Patent: June 30, 2009Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Barry G. Publication number: 20090089111Abstract: A system and method to automate product life cycle management is disclosed. Product registration is automated by providing a package with automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) media, such as an RFID tag or a barcode, and a point-of-sale terminal that writes a unique product registration key to the AIDC media. Information about the product and customer is maintained by the brand owner's product management system. A global directory service acting as a broker is used as an intermediary to facilitate interactions between point-of-sale or post sale systems and the brand owner's system. Upon product purchase, customer and unique product identifier is sent to the brand owner's product management system via the broker. The brand owner's system creates a unique product registration key that is sent back to the point of sale terminal, which then writes the unique product registration key to the AIDC media annexed to the product.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2007Publication date: April 2, 2009Inventors: John O. Patent number: 6020973Abstract: A method for use with a printing system of a type in which one or more clients communicate with a plurality of printers by way of a network and print server is provided. The print server includes a communications layer with a plurality of connectivity modules, and each of the connectivity modules communicates with at least one of the plurality of printers. The method includes the steps of generating a document processing function call in the print server, in response to a request from one of the one or more clients, and selecting one of the plurality of connectivity modules. In turn, the document processing function call is transmitted to the selected one of the plurality of connectivity modules; and, in response to analyzing the document processing function call with the communications interface, a set of information is obtained with the selected connectivity module.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1997Date of Patent: February 1, 2000Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Jonathan D.
