Abstract: Systems and methods for synchronising bookmarks between communications devices are provided. Bookmarks refer to user-defined and nicknamed URLs as local parameters in Browser software, also sometimes known as “Favourites”. Real-time synchronisation of bookmarks is accomplished through an application of “push technology”. Upon identifying a change in the set of bookmarks of a communications device, the communications device transmits an indication of the change to the network. The network uses push technology to push the indication to the other communications device. Once the indication is received by the other communications device, the other communications device updates its set of bookmarks according to the indication thereby achieving synchronisation. Synchronisation may be performed between two or more devices.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a mobile communication device is configured to selectively enable user data communications after registration in a wireless communication network. The mobile device sends, via its radio, feature compliance information to the network. In response to the feature compliance information being sent, the mobile device receives, via the radio, configuration information which is derived based on the feature compliance information and location information of the mobile device. The mobile device then selectively enables the user data communications based on the received configuration information. In particular, the mobile device enables the user data communications when the location information indicates that the mobile device is operating in a particular country and the feature compliance information indicates feature compliance for the particular country.

In one embodiment, a method comprises one or more of the following: automatically detecting receipt of a new data item from the messaging host system for a user over the wide-area data network; based on filtering rules configured for the user, determining if the new data item is to be redirected to the user's mobile device over a wireless network; and upon determining that the new data item is to be redirected, processing at least a portion of the new data item for transmission thereof to the user's mobile device.

A point-to-point communication connection is preferably established between a first host system and a common wireless router, a mobile network message at a mobile device is generated, the mobile network message is transmitted via a wireless network to the common wireless router which in turn routes a data item component of the mobile network message to the appropriate host service.

Abstract: A system for provisioning an associated service for a device is described. The associated service allows a user to access a primary service and, optionally, one or more additional services through a mobile handheld device. The associated service is provisioned entirely through the handheld device. A system for provisioning the associated service receives provisioning requests from the device and creates and configures the associated service and, if needed, the primary service. The primary and additional services may be e-mail services, calendar services, contact management services or other data services. The associated service may be used simultaneously with different types of primary and additional services.

Abstract: A method and system in a data communication environment enables the exchange of information between a plurality of software applications through a selected communication device, such as a radio frequency modem. Messages received by modem are stored as files intended for one of a plurality of applications, even if the destination application is not currently active. The method and system may utilize the file system of the transmitting location to provide the address of the receiving location by embedding the address in the path of the file to be transmitted.
