  • Patent number: 9454745
Abstract: A system and method of tracking vehicles stored within a parking lot using RFID tags is disclosed. The method includes creating a record of a vehicle, where the record includes information associated with the vehicle. The method further includes assigning an RFID tag to the record associated with the vehicle, attaching the RFID tag to the vehicle, detecting the RFID tag using a first interrogator, and determining a new geographic location of the first interrogator contemporaneously with detecting the RFID tag. In addition, the method may include recording video of the vehicle, where the video includes a video record of each time when the vehicle is moved. The method includes assigning the new geographic location of the RFID tag when the RFID tag is no longer detected by the first interrogator and updating the record with the new geographic location of the RFID tag and the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20140186866
Abstract: A control test strip for glucose that includes a cover that forms a fluid path when affixed to the test strip substrate. The fluid path includes a glucose deposit area formed by drying a glucose solution on to the cover or onto the test strip substrate. The control test strip further includes a pair of electrodes having a first end positioned within an enzyme coating area and a second end positioned to deliver an electrical signal to the glucose meter. The enzyme coating area also lies within the fluid path. When a user places a drop of water at the opening of the fluid path, capillary action pulls the water into the fluid path, mixing the water with the dried glucose so that a solution having a known glucose concentration is formed. This glucose solution then mixes with the enzyme and a reading is made by the glucose meter.

  • Patent number: 8621779
Abstract: A method and apparatus for growing plants in a heated environment. One aspect of the invention provides an apparatus for growing plants in a heated environment, with the apparatus comprising a greenhouse, a waste heat source provided to heat the greenhouse, and a radiant heat system that heats the greenhouse using the waste heat from the waste heat source. The greenhouse may be in or upon a rooftop, a space adjacent to a factory, a space adjacent to an urban store, or a space adjacent to a suburban store. In a preferred embodiment, the plants are grown hydroponically. In a different aspect, the radiant heat system uses a food grade heat transfer fluid. In another preferred embodiment, the waste heat source is a smokestack. For other embodiments, the radiant heat system resides in a floor and/or the sides of the greenhouse.

  • Publication number: 20110246155
Abstract: A system includes a processor and a memory. The memory includes a first data store configured to store a plurality of impact factors, each of which includes a normalized percentage change in an estimated building parameter attributable to a particular design choice associated with a proposed building. The memory further includes a plurality of instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to receive a first user input selecting at least one of the plurality of impact factors, bundle the at least one of the plurality of impact factors into a group in response to receiving the user input, receive a second user input including a name to associate with the group, and store the group and the name in the memory. At least one instruction, when executed by the processor, causes to the processor to apply the group to adjust a selected baseline model of a building to produce a resulting model.

  • Publication number: 20110246381
Abstract: A modeling system is configured to model a building from incomplete physical constraint information. When initial user input related to the proposed building is received that identifies a building type, a location, and a square footage, the modeling system retrieves a baseline factor based on the user input and multiplies it by the square footage to produce a baseline energy usage model. As additional user inputs are received that further define the proposed building, efficiency factors are selectively applied that model the energy usage impact related to particular user inputs to produce an adjusted energy usage model, which can be compared to the baseline energy usage model.

  • Patent number: 8001750
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method for guiding an animal includes a hackamore for the purpose of riding without a mouth bit, chains or side shanks. Neck reining is encouraged by applying pressure to the neck and the outside of the lower jaw on the same side, which then encourages the horse to bend in the proper direction. Because of the uniquely designed hackamore, the horse is encouraged to stop with minimum pressure. As the neck rein pressure is applied, the plate twists and applies pressure to the side of the jaw, the horse moves away from the pressure providing more control to the rider. Because of the instant release of the pressure, the horse feels the rider's instant and complete release which provides for easier and faster training of the horse. The adjustable nature of the hackamore allows for the rider to fit various animals unique muzzle structure.
