Abstract: A cloud-based computing system is described herein for executing an application using an actor model programming paradigm. The computing system provides plural actor modules that correspond to activated instantiations of at least one actor module type. In one implementation, at least a subset of the actor modules have counterpart user interface (UI) interaction units, presented via a client-side application module, through which an end user may interact with the subset of the plural actor modules. The computing system also includes functionality for parallelizing computations performed by an actor module, receiving input information from external sources, associating an aggregate item (having plural entry items) with a single actor module, and so on.
