An embodiment comprises one or more of the following: automatically detecting arrival of a message at a messaging server for a user having a mail address thereat, the message being displayable on a computer for the user with a status indicator icon associated therewith; processing at least a portion of an instance of the message for transmission to the user's mobile data communication device over a wireless network; receiving a status signal from the mobile data communication device; and altering the status indicator icon associated with the message on the computer responsive to the status signal.

Abstract: A method of sharing data accessible by a server, with a portable electronic device of a first entity includes receiving permission at the server to share with the first entity, data associated with a second entity, the data for use with an application. The server retrieves the data associated with the second entity and transmits the data from the server to the portable electronic device of the first entity. The data associated with the second entity is received at the portable electronic device of the first entity and stored in association with a second entity identifier, thereby distinguishing the data from other data for use with the application.

Abstract: A method for synchronizing a first database including first data records with a second database including second data records. The method includes starting a synchronization session with an electronic device on which the second database resides, requesting the first data records from the first database, temporarily disconnecting the synchronization session while awaiting receipt of the first data records, receiving the first data records, and restarting and completing the synchronization session.

Abstract: A method of synchronizing at least one database including at least one updated data record with at least one other database including a corresponding data record. The method includes comparing at least one field of data of the updated data record with a corresponding field of the data record prior to updating, generating change information including at least the location of a change and an indication representative of the change for the field of the updated data record, and transmitting the change information for assembly in the corresponding data record.

Abstract: Errors of e.g database synchrony between a radio-connected mobile-station and a server can be especially troublesome if continued and repeated, and can quickly deplete resources in the mobile-station. This problem is addressed by keeping an error-event-count in the server; when the count exceeds a threshold, the server signals the mobile to immediately transmit the recent-activity-log in the mobile, i.e the log in the mobile in which are recorded the detailed elements relating to assembling and transmitting the data packet in which the error was detected. Using the information in the recent-activity-log, the server can institute de-bugging strategies, etc, to correct the problem. The threshold is in two stages; above the initial threshold, the mobile-station is signalled to increase the level of detail as recorded in the recent-activity-logs (if the mobile is able to do so), and the actual transmission of the log only takes place above the main threshold.

Abstract: A synchronization process, and associated apparatus, for placing database copies in match with one another by way of communications effectuated upon an air interface of a radio communication system. Hash functions are performed at a mobile node and at a network part upon mobile and network copies of database information. Comparison of the hash information formed therefrom provides a preliminary indication of whether the databases are in match with one another. If a determination is made that the databases are out of match, the data is compared, and the data is placed in match with one another responsive to such additional comparisons.

A redirector program operating at the host system enables a user to continuously redirect certain user-selected data items from the host system to the user's mobile data communication device upon detecting that one or more user-defined triggering events has occurred. The redirector program operates in connection with event generating applications and repackaging systems at the host system to configure and detect a particular user-defined event, and then to repackage the user-selected data items in an electronic wrapper prior to pushing the data items to the mobile device. Included in the system is a program to manage information moved by the user within the host system or the mobile data communication device so that the move is made on both the host system and the mobile data communication device.
