Abstract: The invention is directed to a device and methods for assisting in the selection of finishing materials or products such as countertop materials, flooring materials or products or a wide variety of other finish materials or products that are not conducive to forming product samples having desired characteristics. The devices may include a base substrate having an image of a finish material or product provided thereon, and a layer of material which provides a predetermined visual appearance shift in the image associated with the base substrate to make a laminate. The top surface of the laminate may be provided with a surface texture to form a product sample which closely simulates the color, pattern, texture and/or gloss, reflectance or light absorption associated with an actual predetermined finish material or product.
