  • Patent number: 8539341
Abstract: We describe a method of displaying a document page with a predetermined size using a display device having edges defining lateral dimensions not substantially larger than said predetermined size and having a central re-writable display portion and a non-re-writable border, said document page comprising a central, foreground portion bearing one or both of text and graphics, a background having a background color and at least one margin having said background color, the method comprising: inputting page data defining a page for display; processing said page data to crop margins of said page such that, when displayed on said re-writable display portion, said non-re-writable border gives the appearance of said cropped margins, said processing generating cropped page data; and outputting said cropped page data for display on said re-writable display portion of said display.

  • Patent number: 7640491
Abstract: Automatically displaying updated and relevant content on the display of a mobile computing device. In response to receiving a registration that includes a request for particular dynamic content, a subscription service creates a template file. The template file includes static content, references to dynamic content, and corresponding layout information. The template file is transferred to and stored on a mobile computing device. When dynamic content is updated the dynamic content is pushed to the mobile computing device via a push gateway. Dynamic content may be included in an service indication message that is pushed to the mobile computing device via a wireless protocol. Dynamic content may be stored in an update store included in the mobile computing device. At an appropriate time computer-executable instructions may be executed that merge content from the update store into the template file for display on a display device.

  • Publication number: 20090220207
Abstract: The invention generally relates to the field of digital playback and especially to operation of “trickplay” features such as fast-forward and rewind, more particularly to the invention relates to playback of an auxiliary video stream during trickplay of a standard digital video stream. Embodiments of the invention are useful in digital video players and recorders. A system for playing stored video data, the system having a rapid play or rewind mode, the system comprising: means for detecting operation of said rapid play or rewind mode; and means for outputting supplementary program material during said operation of said rapid play or rewind mode. Preferably the system selects a video stream which is configured so that it plays at a substantially normal rate in a forward direction when output by a video player operating in a rapid play or rewind mode.

  • Publication number: 20090109185
Abstract: We describe a display device for displaying an electronic document page comprising a central rewritable portion, a non-rewritable border with external lateral physical dimensions defined by the display edges, wherein said border is coloured to substantially match a background colour of said central rewritable portion such that when a foreground part of said document page is displayed on said central rewritable portion the appearance of margins of said document page is provided by said background coloured border whereby in use said displayed electronic document page appears to extend up to said display edges, and wherein the surface of the display is substantially flat over the lateral physical dimensions from the central rewritable portion across the border to the display edges.
