  • Publication number: 20080114326
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure involve a disposable absorbent article configured to be placed on the body of a wearer to mimic swaddling characteristics. The disposable absorbent article may include a chassis having a tuck flap and two ears or side panels. The two ears extend in opposing lateral directions from a first waist region, and the tuck flap extends in a longitudinal direction from a second waist region. Other chassis embodiments may include two additional ears extending in opposing lateral directions from the second waist region. The chassis is adapted to fit a wearer by wrapping the two ears around a wearer's waist, passing the second waist region between a wearer's legs, and folding and/or tucking the tuck flap over the ears. Embodiments of the chassis may be constructed with manually formed or pre-formed tuck flaps that may also be stretchable.

  • Patent number: 6142985
Abstract: A Z-folded barrier cuff is provided to allow both sufficient lateral spacing of the barrier cuffs for the genitals in the front and for BM containment in the back as well as sufficient cuff height in the crotch area for good fit into the leg crease and good containment of body exudates. The barrier cuff is Z-folded by folding a first portion back upon itself such that a first segment and a second segment is formed. A second portion is folded laterally inwardly back upon itself such that a third segment is formed. Thus, the Z-folded barrier cuffs are properly laterally spaced in the crotch area and near the end edges while providing sufficient height to properly contain body exudates.

  • Patent number: 5830202
Abstract: The invention relates to an absorbent structure (1) having a first layer which forms a mixture of absorbent gelling material particles (5), fibers, a second layer comprising liquid permeable substrate (7), and absorbent gelling material particles (9) attached to said substrate thus forming a laminate. The weight of the absorbent gelling material particles (5) in the mixed layer is not more than 70 percent, preferably not more than 60 percent of the weight of the mixed layer. The combined weight of the absorbent gelling material particles attached to the substrate (7), and in the mixed layer (5) is at least 80 percent, preferably at least 140 percent of the weight of fibers in the mixed layer (5). The laminate (7, 9) can be located on top of the mixed layer (5), and comprises an acquisition zone (15) of low basis weight of absorbent gelling material particles. The laminate may also be located below the mixed layer.
