  • Patent number: 6075868
Abstract: A portable collapsible seat with an advanced five-driver integral audio system is disclosed. The seat is designed to be used in conjunction with a video screen to create an enhanced "virtual reality" environment. The placement of the drivers relative to the user's head, combined with the intentionally different bandwidths of sound produced by the different drivers, and the relative acoustical intensities of the drivers produces psychologically "gripping" effect, designed to transport the user away from the reality of the actual surroundings and into the virtual reality of the video presentation. One of the drivers is intentionally oriented and positioned to provide tactilly perceivable vibration through the seat to the user.

  • Patent number: 5764777
Abstract: A four-dimensional acoustical audio system utilizes both spatial and temporal signal processing to maximize the depth, width, and perceived directionality of the acoustic field with respect to the binaural auditory system. Transducers are critically placed within the confines of a reverberant enclosure, and each transducer is assigned a specific bandwidth of sound either in mono or stereo, depending upon the spatial location of the transducer to take advantage of the binaural auditory system of the intended listener. The system minimizes the number of transducers and electronics required to achieve the effect of a live performance, regardless of the dynamics of the enclosure in which it is placed. The loudspeaker system can be used in small enclosed volumes such as an automobile or extended to volumes the size of a motion picture theater or concert hall and even outdoors.

  • Patent number: 5754663
Abstract: A four-dimensional acoustical audio system utilizes both spatial and temporal signal processing to provide uniform sound throughout a range of ear levels in an enclosure and combines the output of loudspeakers above and below the desired level to substantially eliminate the perceived direction and location of the sound sources and effectively creates a phantom sound source at the desired level

  • Patent number: 5673326
Abstract: A bass audio circuit includes a first filter network which receives left and right channel input signals and produces two filtered signals by attenuating frequencies in the input signals above a first cutoff frequency. The two filtered signals are summed to create a first monophonic signal. A second filter network produces attenuated frequencies in either the input signals or in the first monophonic signal that are above a second cutoff frequency which is lower than the first cutoff frequency. The signals from the second filter network are combined and passed through a phase inverter to derive a second monophonic signal. An output stage individually amplifies the two monophonic signals which then either are applied to a dual voice coil woofer, or are electrically summed and applied to a single voice coil woofer. Alternatively, the two monophonic signals are first summed and applied to a single channel amplifier which drives a single voice coil woofer.

  • Patent number: 5664020
Abstract: A compact full-range loudspeaker system includes an elongated enclosure having two open ends joined by a hollow interior, which enclosure may be of fixed dimension or telescoping, and has a full-range speaker mounted at each end of the cylindrical enclosure. The enclosure length is set in a range governed by the small speaker size to maximize the system response, particularly in the lower frequency range, and a dampening material is provided to construct the enclosure to minimize the structural acoustic response of the enclosure when being driven. A pair of miniature sound boards may be flat, polymer surfaces mounted to a base and positioned at each end of the cylindrical enclosure at an angle facing each speaker for reflecting sound waves emanating from the speaker in accordance with the positioning of the cylindrical enclosure to create an effective sound stage and control directionality.

  • Patent number: 5450495
Abstract: A loudspeaker apparatus includes an elongated hollow tube having two open ends, which tube may be a rigid or telescoping tube, and has a wide range speaker mounted at each end of the hollow tube. A pair of deflector surfaces may be flat, polymer surfaces mounted to a base and are positioned at an angle facing each speaker at each end of the tube for deflecting the sound waves emanating from each speaker in accordance with the positioning of the tube. The tube may also have a tuned port formed into the side of the tube and connected to an arcuate passageway built into the hollow portion of the inside of the tube for producing a bass resonance from the backwaves of both speakers.
