Abstract: The inventive system includes a content server that communicates with access programs on a plurality of client computers. The access programs monitor the URIs input into the web browser program on each computer. When a URI is detected, or when certain housekeeping tasks must be performed, the access program transmits a request for content referencing that URI, or that housekeeping task, to the server. The server searches a data store such as a database and returns relevant data to the access program, which data is displayed on the client computer. In addition to viewing existing content, the user can submit new content, which content becomes part of the data saved in the database. When the user switches to a new website or webpage the process is repeated and data related to the new website or web page's URI is displayed.
