Patent number: 11790629Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a species (analyte) separation and analysis system, for instance a spectrometry system, comprising a processor for receiving and processing signals from said its detector to remove undesirable variation or noise before further processing into a spectrum, whereby the processor is programmed by a novel program for a normalization preprocessing of the signals of said separation and analysis system.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2019Date of Patent: October 17, 2023Assignee: KATHOLIEKE UNIVERSITEIT LEUVENInventors: Bart De Moor, Raf Van De Plas, Etienne Waelkens

Patent number: 10540536Abstract: Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) has become a prime tool for studying the distribution of biomolecules in tissue. Although IMS data sets can become very large, computational methods have made it practically feasible to search these experiments for relevant findings. However, these methods lack access to an important source of information that many human interpretations rely upon: anatomical insight. In this work, this need is addressed by (1) integrating a curated anatomical data source with an empirically acquired IMS data source, establishing an algorithm-accessible link between them; and (2) demonstrating the potential of such an IMS-anatomical atlas link by applying it toward automated anatomical interpretation of ion distributions in tissue.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2015Date of Patent: January 21, 2020Assignees: Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, K.U.Leuven R&D, Vanderbilt UniversityInventors: Richard M. Caprioli, Bart De Moor, Raf Van De Plas, Nico Verbeeck, Etienne Waelkens

Patent number: 9328031Abstract: The present invention relates to a fertilizer composition comprising ammonium nitrate, of which the potential misuse as a precursor for an explosive is limited on the one hand, without hampering its legitimate use by farmers for food production on the other hand, to a method for the preparation of said fertilizer composition, and to the use thereof. The fertilizer composition comprising ammonium nitrate comprises a non-hygroscopic agent which is able to form a non-hygroscopic fertilizer composition with ammonium nitrate under normal conditions of storage and use, and to form an hygroscopic composition with ammonium nitrate after said fertilizer composition is contacted with water, and optionally a foaming agent. According to one embodiment, the non-hygroscopic agent is selected from the group of non-hygroscopic urea double salts, in particular urea calcium nitrate (UCaN).Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2013Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: YARA INTERNATIONAL ASAInventors: Francois Ledoux, Bart De Moor

Publication number: 20120053083Abstract: Present invention concerns a kit and an in vitro method, for evaluating a biological stage of an HCC tumour in an individual, based on a sample from the individual, comprising: deriving from the sample a profile data set, the profile data set on a the gene expression panel with the markers CCNG2, EGLN3, ERO1L, FGF21, MAT1A, RCL1 and WDR45L or a substantially similar marker, being a quantitative measure of the amount of a distinct RNA or protein constituent in the panel so that measurement of the constituents enables evaluation of the biological condition or the biological behaviour HCC tumours.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 5, 2010Publication date: March 1, 2012Applicant: KATHOLIEKE UNIVERSITEIT LEUVENInventors: Anneleen Daemen, Bart De Moor, Olivier Gevaert, Louis Libbrecht, Hannah Van Malenstein, Jos Van Pelt, Chris Verslype

Patent number: 7491187Abstract: Present invention is a system of blood glucose monitoring and intensive insulin therapy in a ICU for strict maintenance of normoglycemia which reduces intensive care and hospital mortality and morbidity of critically ill adult patients. The findings of present study also reveal factors determining insulin doses needed to maintain normoglycemia as well as the impact of insulin dose versus blood glucose level on the observed outcome benefits have been established. The invention provides a control system that adapts the flow of the insulin infusion based on insulin requirement calculated by blood glucose levels and clinical parameters such as history of diabetes, Body Mass Index, blood glucose level on admission, reason of ICU admission, time in the ICU, type and severity of illness, caloric intake, obesity, drugs affecting insulin sensitivity). This automated insulin monitoring systems significantly reduces the workload and human resource management problems for intensive insulin therapy in patients in the ICU.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2003Date of Patent: February 17, 2009Assignee: K.U. Leuven Research & DevelopmentInventors: Greta Van Den Berghe, Daniel Berckmans, Jean-Marie Aerts, Bart De Moor, Bert Pluymers, Frank De Smet
