Abstract: In on aspect, a dual mode radio frequency identification (RFID) tag adapted to facilitate location determination in a network is provided. The RFID tag comprises a transceiver adapted to wirelessly exchange information with the network, and a controller coupled to the transceiver, the controller configurable to operate the RFID tag in one of a plurality of modes, wherein, in a first mode of the plurality of modes, the controller is configured to transmit a chirp to the network via the transceiver to be used by at least one network component to determine a location of the RFID tag, and wherein, in a second mode of the plurality of modes, the controller is adapted to process information received from the network via the transceiver to compute a location of the RFID tag.
