  • Patent number: 9628539
Abstract: A system and method for distributed uploading of content utilizes one or more viewer systems, coupled over a network to a remote content source, to download content to the viewer system(s) at a first time and to retransmit at least a portion of the received content to a remote storage system along with authorization/identification indicia identifying the viewer system. In one embodiment, fractional portions of the same content program from multiple different viewer systems are aggregated at the remote storage system for subsequent download streaming to a requesting of the viewer system for viewing thereby at a second time, which is time-shifted from the initial transmission from the content source.

  • Patent number: 9141982
Abstract: A collaborative cloud DVR system (ccDVR), which includes a cloud storage system and a plurality of participating DVR client devices, acts collaboratively as a single communal entity in which community members authorize each other to upload, remotely store and download licensed content for time shifted viewing, in a manner which rigorously protects legal rights of the content owners while overcoming the potential physical obstacles of limited bandwidth, power failures, incomplete uploads/downloads of content, limited cloud storage capacity, etc. The collaborative cloud DVR community collaboratively shares bandwidth and cloud storage capacity among DVR viewer/users with each owner/user of a DVR client device authorizing his or her individual DVR client device to be utilized by a cloud storage system server and any other owner/user of a DVR client device in the respective service community, and receiving similar permission in return to promote the convenience of cloud storage in an authorized manner.

  • Patent number: 9088623
Abstract: A collaborative system for more efficiently viewing streamed content in a time shifted manner utilizes collaborative home set-top box (STB) and a cloud component (the cloud STB) and a receiving device, such as an antenna or cable component, all cooperatively shared among a community of users. The cloud STB may further comprise a network accessible distributed part and/or a cross licensed portion of other home STBs. The home STB may be connected to the cloud STB and other home STBs over any local or wide area network topology infrastructure, such as the Internet. A group of home STBs may be cross licensed to each other within a community of users sharing the same viewing rights to a collaboratively copy content retained either in the system or among a plurality of shared user systems.

  • Publication number: 20150181270
Abstract: A system and technique for simultaneously presenting multiple, content object data streams on a user interface in a manner which encourages multidimensional browsing using directional navigation commands from a traditional remote control allows a viewer to select from live broadcast content, previously recorded content, and content which has yet to be recorded. According to another aspect of the disclosure, a viewer may view in a time shifted manner, not only previously recorded content, but any advertisements or commercials contained in, including possibly skipping an advertisement, if the profile associated with the viewer has earned enough viewing credit to perform such activity.

  • Publication number: 20150032847
Abstract: A system for accurately modeling of buyer/purchaser psychology and ranking of content objects within a channel for user initiated browsing and presentation contains a neuropsychological modeling engine, a ranking application, and a behavior modeler which communicate with each other and a presentation system over communication networks. The neuropsychological modeling engine utilizes metafiles associated with content objects, a purchaser/viewer model and a channel model to derive a value ? representing an individual's mood and a value m representing an individual's motivational strength to select a content object. If the value ? is within an acceptable predetermined range, the value m is used to determine a ranking for the content object relative to other content objects associated with the channel model.
