  • Patent number: 4805284
Abstract: A relatively large diameter gear in a cyclic motion generating mechanism is finished and assembled into the mechanism in a manner such that, although the gear may not be precisely truly circular, binding or interference with a meshed gear is eliminated while zero backlash exists at the cycle end position of the gear. After the teeth are formed on the gear blank, a series of diametral measurements to locate one position at which the maximum diameter intersects the pitch circle. A radius from this point of intersection larger than the designed radius of the pitch circle is then employed to locate a center of the blank about which the central opening is subsequently machined to establish the rotational axis of the finished gear.

  • Patent number: 4569240
Abstract: A motion generating mechanism having a gear and rack (or alternately a sprocket and chain) output comprises a housing mounting a prime mover coupled through a gear to drive a primary rotary member about a first fixed axis in which a sun gear is concentrically disposed. The primary rotary member carries one or more roller gears that are engaged by the sun gear such that the roller gears rotate about a second axis which is parallel to the first axis and angularly movable with respect to the first axis as the primary gear is driven by the electric motor. Each roller gear has an inner portion on which is mounted a crank shoe adapted to movably engage a slotted section formed in a plate member that is, in turn, adapted to drive a gear that is axially displaced from the axis of rotation of the plate member. The gear, in turn, in connected to a gear step-up member drive for driving the gear and rack (or sprocket and chain) assembly.

  • Patent number: 4089228
Abstract: A combined epicycloidal and harmonic motion generating mechanism which comprises a support frame mounting a prime mover coupled through a gear reducer to drive a primary rotary member about a fixed first axis on which a sun gear is concentrically disposed. The primary rotary member carries one or more roller gears that are engaged by the sun gear such that the roller gears rotate about a second axis which is parallel to the fixed first axis and movable with respect to said first axis as the primary rotary gear is driven by the electric motor. Each roller gear has an upper portion on which is mounted a roller adapted to movably engage a slotted section formed in a plate member adapted to be driven by the roller for rotation about the aforementioned fixed first axis such that the motion of a selected point on the plate varies in a combined epicycloidal and harmonic manner relative to the velocity of the primary rotary member.

  • Patent number: 4020708
Abstract: An epicycloidal crank drive mechanism is disclosed as comprising a support frame mounting a prime mover coupled through a gear reducer to drive a primary rotary member about a first fixed axis on which a sun gear is concentrically disposed. The primary rotary member carries at least one roller gear that is engaged by the sun gear such that the roller gear rotates about a second axis which is parallel to the fixed first axis and movable with respect to said first axis as the primary rotary gear is driven by the prime mover. The roller gear has an upper portion on which is mounted a roller adapted to movably engage a slotted section formed in a plate member. The plate member is driven by the roller for rotation about the first fixed axis. The plate member carries a crank arm which moves through a motion that varies relative to the velocity of the primary rotary member. The mechanism is disclosed as an integral part of two types of crank mechanisms.
