  • Patent number: 5942851
Abstract: The low pressure sodium discharge lamp has a discharge vessel (1) having pinch seals (2) through which current conductors (4) extend towards electrodes (3) inside the discharge vessel (1). The current conductors (4) each have a first glass coating (5), which extends from inside a pinch seal (2) into the discharge vessel (1) and a second lime glass coating (6) abutting the first (5) and extending to outside the discharge vessel (1). A new first sodium resistant glass coating (5), which is substantially devoid of borate, is defined.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 5, 1997
Date of Patent: August 24, 1999
    Assignee: U.S. Philips Corporation
Inventors: Bartholomeus Filmer, Petrus M.G. Van Gennip
  • Patent number: 5925582
Abstract: A novel type of glass having a low sodium content (<0.1 wt. % Na.sub.2 O), which can be used as a bulb glass (10) for "TL" lamps and for compact fluorescent lamps. Said glass is free of the toxic and/or corrosive components PbO, F, As.sub.2 0.sub.3 and Sb.sub.2 0.sub.3. Apart from favorable properties as regards phosphor poisoning and mercury absorption, resulting in a favorable maintenance of the lamp, said glass is characterized by a wide working range W.R. (=T.sub.work -T.sub.soft), so that glass tubing can be readily made of said glass. By virtue of the low liquidus temperature (T.sub.liq), the glass can be drawn into glass tubing which is free of crystals.

  • Patent number: 5612263
Abstract: A novel type of leadless, black glass for use in an envelope (3) of a black light blue lamp (1) which includes CoO in an amount of 0.45 to 1.0 wt % and NiO in an amount of 2.8 to 3.4 wt %. The glass does not comprise PbO and B.sub.2 O.sub.3. The glass can be exchanged with the existing lead-containing glasses for such envelopes (3). A burning lamp (1) having such an envelope (3) emits light of the same intensity and colour as the existing lamp and emits predominantly UV-A radiation.

  • Patent number: 5470805
Abstract: A novel type of lead-free glass for use in glass components of electric lamps, such as stems (1) for incandescent lamps and fluorescent lamps and lamp envelopes for compact fluorescent lamps. The glass does not contain PbO, F and B.sub.2 O.sub.3. The glass has favorable physical properties as regards meltability, softening, expansion, electric resistance, transparency, strength and chemical resistance.
