  • Publication number: 20100018351
Abstract: The invention provides a recycling step in an oxidative pressure leaching process for recovery of metals using halide ions, in which a portion of the leached solids are recycled back to the feed to the autoclave, to allow two or more passes through the high temperature leaching step.

  • Patent number: 7452520
Abstract: A process for the production of calcium bromide from feed brines, particularly from Dead Sea End Brine (EB), is described. The process comprises extracting the feed brine in countercurrent with a composite organic solvent; optionally, purifying the extract to increase the ratio Br:Cl by contacting it with a part of the product; and washing the purified extract with water to yield the product, that is an aqueous solution of CaBr2. The composite solvent comprises an anionic extractant, such as an amine or a mixture of amines; a cationic extractant, such as a carboxylic phosphoric or sulphonic acid or a mixtures of said acids; and diluent/modifier, which is an organic solvent. An apparatus for the production of calcium bromide is also described, which comprises: an extraction battery; optionally, a purification battery; and a washing battery, wherein at least one of the batteries comprises a plurality of stages.

  • Publication number: 20060127301
Abstract: A process for the preparation of Solid Calcium Bromide Hydrates comprises preparing a highly concentrated Calcium Bromide solution from an initial solution having a lower concentration, bringing it into contact with a cold surface, whereby solid Calcium Bromide hydrates form on said surface, and detaching said solid hydrates from said surface. The concentration of the initial solution is not higher than 60 wt %, typically 52 wt %, and is brought to from 65 to 78 wt %. The said Calcium Hydrates are mainly tetrahydrate Calcium Bromide. The Solid Calcium Hydrates have many uses in the processing of oil wells, for instance preparation of completion fluids, work-over fluids or drill-in fluids in the processing of wells, restoring already used and/or depleted such fluids to the desired, original density. They also have other uses, particularly for soil remediation.

  • Patent number: 7037482
Abstract: A method of extracting a halide and sulphate from an aqueous sulphate solution, such as a zinc sulphate solution, comprises subjecting the solution to solvent extraction to extract halide and sulphate from the solution and controlling the amount of sulphate extracted by selective adjustment of the acidity of the aqueous solution.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5698142
Abstract: A method for the production of finely particulate solid chemical products from a molten stock comprises the steps of: (a) feeding the product, as molten stock, to an elongated treatment space, sealed from the ambient; (b) causing the product to flow as a flowable mass within space, while leaving a free portion of said space above the surface of said mass; (c) maintaining in said space an atmosphere that is non-reactive with said product; (d) subjecting said product to a stirring and mixing action by rotary means; (e) concurrently cooling said product as it proceeds along said space, whereby to solidify it; (f) concurrently detaching any product that adheres to surfaces within said space; and (g) discharging the solidified product, in the form of solid particles, from said elongated treatment space.
